Iguanas verdes
A pensamos que la naturaleza está muy lejos de casa, en bosques, selvas, montañas y fincas, la naturaleza nunca dejara de sorprendernos siempre seremos testigos de la increíble diversidad de la vida que nos rodea, el mundo es mucho más grande y extraordinario de lo que imaginamos, solo necesitamos darnos la oportunidad de verlo, vivirlo y sentirlo.

We think that nature is far from home, in forests, jungles, mountains and farms, but nature will never cease to amaze us. We will always witness the incredible diversity of life that surrounds us. The world is much bigger and more extraordinary than we imagine; we just need to give ourselves the opportunity to see it, experience it, and feel it.

Las iguanas verdes no solo forman partes de grandes ecosistemas tropicales, también las encontramos en la ciudad, es todo un espectáculo verlas correteando por las plazas, calles en pleno suelo de asfalto o encima de los árboles como si fueran las verdaderas dueñas del lugar.
Son reptiles herviboros de gran tamaño poseen una enorme cresta dorsal y larga cola que usan para defenderse, habitan en los árboles pero también son excelentes caminadoras y nadadoras, se alimentan a base de hojas, flores y frutas, si bien la temperatura es fundamental para su supervivencia, el aumento de temperatura y el cambio climático ponen en riesgo su vida y su hábitat.
Cuando las vemos en la ciudad es porque escapan de su habitat natural de depredadores y cazadores en busca de un refugio, caminan mucho camuflajiandose entre la vegetación hasta llegar a un lugar que consideran "seguro", igual en la ciudad son atacadas por grandes y chicos usando gomeras, resorteras armas pequeñas para lanzar piedras con fuerza y velocidad.
He leído que tienen muchas maneras de sobrevivir, son muy hábiles para nadar, tienen un tercer ojo en la parte superior de su cabeza, pueden perder parte de su colada para escapar de su depredador, luego se regenera aunque no les queda igual, no se sorprendan un día de estos estar sentados en una plaza y de la nada les caiga una iguana verde en la cabeza o en los pies.
En Guanare estado Portuguesa donde vivió mi cuñado en los años 90, decía que era muy común ver muchas iguanas en la plaza prácticamente conviviendo con la gente, nadie las mataba ni perseguía, las alimentaba, ellas parecían ser parte del ambiente.

Green iguanas are not only part of large tropical ecosystems, but we also find them in the city. It's quite a sight to see them scampering through plazas, streets on asphalt, or in trees as if they truly owned the place. These large herbivorous reptiles possess an enormous dorsal crest and a long tail that they use for defense. They live in trees but are also excellent walkers and swimmers, feeding on leaves, flowers, and fruits. While temperature is fundamental to their survival, rising temperatures and climate change threaten their lives and habitat. When we see them in the city, it's because they are escaping their natural habitat from predators and hunters in search of refuge. They walk long distances, camouflaged among the vegetation, until they reach a place they consider "safe." Even in the city, they are attacked by adults and children alike using slingshots, small weapons to launch stones with force and speed. I've read that they have many ways to survive. They're very skilled swimmers, they have a third eye on the top of their head, and they can lose part of their tail to escape predators, which then regenerates, although it's never quite the same. Don't be surprised if one of these days you're sitting in a plaza and a green iguana suddenly falls on your head or feet.
In Guanare, Portuguesa state, where my brother-in-law lived in the 90s, he said it was very common to see many iguanas in the plaza, practically living alongside the people. Nobody killed or chased them; they fed them. They seemed to be part of the environment.
