English

Carlitos was a boy with many imaginary friends. In his world lived the smallest and strangest beings that nobody could have ever imagined.

He lived in the city, with his mother, at his paternal grandparents' house. She loved the fantastic stories of "nono" José. He would tell her about his childhood and the pranks he used to do, hiding from his father (Carlitos' great-grandfather), when he would escape to the new creek that ran near the country house.

Every day he would go out riding, while his grandfather read the newspaper or some old book in a wooden armchair and, right after, while he rested from the hustle and bustle, he would sit on the floor with his legs crossed to listen to the story he had prepared especially for him.

-Giddy up, horse!- he shouted as José watched him from the armchair.

-Look, Grandpa, how fast is my foreign horse from a distant planet," he exclaimed with excitement.

Out of curiosity, one day his grandfather asked him what he liked most about being a rider. Without hesitation he answered: My horse!

So, he told him about his adventures on the distant planet. There were toothless piranhas, four-legged snakes, seed-eating plants, his admirable horse and also the crocodile fish. They all inhabited that neighboring planet. Carlitos knew that grandfather would not tell anyone.

Rayo, his horse, was described as an elegant animal, with a short neck and long trunk, with well-delineated eyes that drew the most beautiful look characterized by a captivating shine. The mane of the animal was dark, and with the breeze as he walked, it waved on his back. Rayo, as he called him, was an incomparable animal, it was his friend, it was a strange creature that amused his days.

But not only the horse's features were particular, he had also befriended Solomon, the crocodile fish. That being had the ability to get out of the creek and adapt his legs to walk in the mud. On some occasions they would take short walks while talking. He was a friendly fish with a very good sense of humor. On more than a few occasions he had confided his secrets as a child, such as when he ran away from home to play with them. After all, Solomon had the memory of a fish.

That planet was the world that was part of his life. It had all started when a galaxy not too far away exploded into a thousand pieces and Mars regained the power of life.

This story corresponds to my participation in the 7th edition of the literature contest La Abeja Obrera, inspired by the characters the Crocodile Fish and the Foreign Horse from a far away planet, created by the surrealist painter Romanie Sánchez (@romanie).
