Saludos a esta linda comunidad de Ladies of Hive, esta es mi primera publicación aquí y espero sean muchas más. Este post lleva en mi cabeza unos cuantos meses, y no lo había podido redactar sino hasta el día de hoy.
Hablemos de la Copa Menstrual, cómo llegó a mi vida, cómo usarla, mi experiencia, y mis recomendaciones así que iniciemos…
La copa menstrual está diseñada para almacenar la sangre de la menstruación dentro de la vagina, está hecha de un silicón de grado médico reutilizable, que permite flexibilidad para introducirla sin complicación, no altera el pH (al menos que hagas un mal uso de la misma), no irrita y no posee ninguna fragancia.
Es importante acotar que no es desechable, tiene una vida útil hasta 10 años, por lo que ahorras mucho dinero al no comprar toallas y tampax, es ecológica, a mi me encanta por esto y muchas más razones.
¿Cómo llegó a mi vida?
Una amiga de la universidad me comentó un día que la usaba, y en mi mente rondaban preguntas tipo: ¿cómo se usará eso? ¿dolerá? ¿y qué haces después con la sangre? por mi mente rondaban muchas dudas pero sin duda me interesaba, con mucha honestidad les digo que odio las toallas sanitarias, me parecen incómodas y lo más importante irritan mi zona intima por lo que era muy agotador vivir así sea unos días al mes con eso; salir, el calor, caminar, o pasar largas horas sentada, pendiente de cambiarlas cada ciertas horas para mi era traumante y lo peor: estar con el temor de estar manchada.
Ella me comentó que se la regaló un familiar de Estados Unidos, y aquí en Venezuela no la había visto, al parecer no eran tan comerciales, entonces para mí esa opción de comprarme una quedó a un lado por un tiempo hasta que llegó la pandemia y llegó a mi vida de casualidad.
Los miles de negocios online que se llevaban por Instagram cada vez era más y las publicidades pagas ni se diga y así fue como llegó a mi una tienda online que se dedica a vender copas menstruales llamada Kopita Store, la cuenta en instagram era pulcra, tenía alrededor de 12 mil seguidores cosa que me pareció un punto a favor y tenía unas historias destacadas con las chicas que les han comprado como prueba de confiabilidad.
Para ese entonces yo no tenía dinero para comprarla, aparte, nunca había comprado online por lo que tenía algo de miedo. Seguí la cuenta y veía mucho su contenido, me parecía interesante, sus tips, las distintas formas de plegar la copa para introducirla, los beneficios, etc…
Un día la cuenta subió una oferta de la copa más el vaso esterilizador por $12 USD, normalmente vendían ese combo en $15 USD (desconozco el precio actual), lo conversé con mi mamá, me apoyó porque si tenía el dinero y me dijo que era una oportunidad,me puse en contacto con la chica y coordinamos el pago y todo excelente.
Al final terminé gastando casi 15$ por el envío ya que la chica es de Aragua, Venezuela y yo de Los Teques, fueron como 5 días que esperé que llegara, lo bueno es que llegó en perfectas condiciones y el paquete completo, primera compra online exitosa :). Todo esto sucedió en noviembre de 2020.
¿Qué debemos saber antes de comprarla?
Es importante conocer que existen distintas tallas de copas menstruales, varían según si has tenido hijos o no, es importante informarse, preguntarle a la persona encargada que las vende o si la compran online sin medio a un tercero leer muy bien.
Existe dos tallas S y L, para elergirla debes comentarle a la persona que las vende o leer e informarte porque dependerá la talla de acuerdo a estas variables: edad, si has tenido parto natural o cesaria, de ser cesaria saber si dilataste o no y si te sometiste a alguna operación vaginal. En mi caso la chica de la tienda virtual me recomendó la talla S.
Antes de comprarla también debemos saber la calidad del silicón de la copa, si es de grado médico o no y si está aprobada por la FDA.
¿Cómo usarla?
Primero debemos esterilizar la copa, para eso podemos comprar el vaso esterilizador que normalmente ofrecen junto a la copa y colocarle agua hirviendo por uno 5 minutos.
Otra opción es meter el vaso esterilizador en el microondas con la copa y el agua por un minuto y medio.
O colocarla en una olla pequeña con agua hirviendo por 3 minutos. Recomiendo que si usan esta opción designen una olla solo para hervir la copa, por higiene.
Dejan enfriar y antes de manipularla debemos lavarnos las manos muy bien. Yo suelo sentarme en la poceta, baño, WC, como le llamen jajaja, la plego en forma de U y la introduzco, luego deben verificar con los dedos que se haya abierto dentro de la vagina porque sino pueden haber fugas. Si es la primera vez que lo haces, recomiendo que te coloques una toalla esas primeras veces para evitar algún desastre por fugas.

Mis primeros intentos fueron fallidos, no les voy a mentir, sufrí porque no se abría después de introducirla y me manchaba. Para sacarla me siento de nuevo en la poceta (WC) ,recomiendan que pujes un poco para poder agarrar la punta de la copita, debes romper el vacío, para eso la copa tiene 4 mini orificios en la parte superior que sirven para poder presionar con los dedos y extraer la copa.
No crean que saldrá rebosada y terminaremos como en una película sangrienta, al contrario, verán que no se llenará más de la mitad, recordemos que cuando vemos la sangre en las toallas esta suele expandirse y verse muy exagerada, incluso notaran que no tiene un mal olor. Lo que recolectó la copa lo desechan en la poceta, se limpian, lavan la copa con abundante agua (sin jabón), se la colocan de nuevo y ya, eso sería todo.
Los primeros meses fueron de adaptación y autoconocimiento, saber que doblez me funcionaba más para introducirla, tuve muchas fugas (y aun, a veces me la coloco apurada) pero yo me sentía feliz, era lo que quería desde hace mucho tiempo. Después del tercer, cuarto mes usandola aprendí a colocarme la copa sin problema, y mucho más rápido que antes.
Es importante tener paciencia y no desesperarse, al final es un momento íntimo con nosotras mismas donde aprendemos a conocernos más. También tuve como ventaja la cuarentena durante el proceso de aprendizaje ya que que no salía de casa, no estaba apurada en salir ni nada similar.
Actualmente tengo un poco más de un año usandola y se las recomiendo con los ojos cerrados, además de ser amigable con el medio ambiente, ahorras un montón, puedes ir a la playa o piscina con tu periodo sin preocupación de mancharse o cambiarte ya que puedes durar más de 6 horas corridas y no pasa nada. Sin riesgo a infección como puede suceder con los tampax en las playas o piscinas que debes cambiarlo cada 2-3 horas, con la copa nada entra ni sale.
Mis recomendaciones o tips
No usarla por más de 12 horas, es muy importante.
Esterilizarla cada vez que inicia la menstruación. Algunas mujeres lo hacen al inicio y final de la misma, gusto de cada quien, para mi una vez al mes me resulta.
Existen distintas formas de plegar la copa, informate y utiliza la que más te funcione.
No solo en la poceta (WC) puedes colocarla, agachada en la ducha también es posible.
No tener miedo de que se vaya a perder ahí dentro, conoce la anatomía de tu cuerpo.
Con respecto a las relaciones sexuales, se puede siempre y cuando no haya no haya penetración vaginal.
Si la copa menstrual es poco flexible o dura no la usen, debe ser lo suficientemente flexible para poder doblarla e introducirla.

Y por último pero no menos importante: tener paciencia, es un proceso, como todo.

Greetings to this nice community of Ladies of Hive, this is my first post here and I hope there will be many more. This post has been in my head for a few months now, and I hadn't gotten around to writing it until today.
Let's talk about the Menstrual Cup, how it came into my life, how to use it, my experience, and my recommendations so let's get started....
The menstrual cup is designed to store menstrual blood inside the vagina, is made of a reusable medical grade silicone, which allows flexibility to insert it without complication, does not alter the pH (unless you misuse it), does not irritate and has no fragrance.
It is important to note that it is not disposable, it has a shelf life of up to 10 years, so you save a lot of money by not buying towels and tampax, it is environmentally friendly, I love it for this and many more reasons.
How did it come into my life?
A friend of mine from college told me one day that she was using it, and in my mind there were questions like: how to use it, will it hurt, and what do you do with the blood afterwards? I honestly tell you that I hate sanitary napkins, I find them uncomfortable and most importantly they irritate my intimate area so it was very tiring to live even a few days a month with that; going out, the heat, walking, or spending long hours sitting, pending to change them every few hours for me was traumatic and the worst: to be with the fear of being stained.
She told me that it was a gift from a relative in the United States, and here in Venezuela I had not seen it, apparently they were not so commercial, so for me the option of buying one was put aside for a while until the pandemic arrived and it came into my life by chance.
The thousands of online businesses that were being carried by Instagram was more and more and paid advertisements not to mention and that's how an online store dedicated to selling menstrual cups called Kopita Store came to me, the instagram account was neat, had about 12 thousand followers which I thought was a plus and had some outstanding stories with girls who have bought from them as proof of reliability.
At that time I didn't have the money to buy it, besides, I had never bought online before so I was a little afraid. I followed the account and watched a lot of its content, I found it interesting, its tips, the different ways of folding the cup to introduce it, the benefits, etc...
One day the account uploaded an offer of the cup plus the sterilizing cup for $12 USD, normally they sold that combo for $15 USD (I do not know the current price), I talked it over with my mom, she supported me because if I had the money and told me it was an opportunity, I contacted the girl and we coordinated the payment and everything was excellent.
In the end I ended up spending almost 15$ for shipping since the girl is from Aragua, Venezuela and I'm from Los Teques, it was like 5 days that I waited for it to arrive, the good thing is that it arrived in perfect condition and the package was complete, first successful online purchase :). < em> All this happened in November 2020.
What should we know before buying it?
It is important to know that there are different sizes of menstrual cups, they vary depending on whether you have had children or not, it is important to be informed, ask the person in charge who sells them or if you buy them online without a third party read very well.
There are two sizes S and L, to choose it you should tell the person who sells them or read and inform you because the size will depend on these variables: < strong>age, if you have had natural childbirth or cesarean, if cesarean know if you dilated or not and if you underwent any vaginal surgery.
Before buying it we should also know the quality of the silicone in the cup, whether it is medical grade or not and if it is FDA approved.
How to use it?
First we must sterilize the cup, for that we can buy the sterilizing cup that is usually offered with the cup and put boiling water for about 5 minutes.
Another option is to put the sterilizing cup in the microwave with the cup and water for a minute and a half.
Or place it in a small pot of boiling water for 3 minutes. I recommend that if you use this option you designate a pot just to boil the cup, for hygiene.
Let it cool and before handling it we must wash our hands very well. I usually sit in the pot, bathroom, toilet, whatever you call it hahaha, I fold it in a U-shape and introduce it, then you should check with your fingers that it has opened inside the vagina because otherwise there may be leaks. If it is the first time you do it, I recommend that you put a towel those first times to avoid any disaster due to leaks.

My first attempts were unsuccessful, I'm not going to lie, I suffered because it did not open after inserting it and it stained me. To remove it I sit again in the cup < em>(WC) ,they recommend that you push a little to grab the tip of the cup, you must break the vacuum, for that the cup has 4 mini holes at the top that are used to press with your fingers and remove the cup.
Do not think that it will overflow and we will end up as in a bloody movie, on the contrary, you will see that it will not be filled more than half, remember that when we see the blood on the towels it usually expands and looks very exaggerated, you will even notice that it does not have a bad smell. What was collected in the cup is discarded in the bowl, cleaned, wash the cup with plenty of water (without soap), put it back on and that's it, that would be all.
The first months were of adaptation and self-knowledge, knowing which fold worked best for me to insert it, I had many leaks (and even sometimes I put it on in a hurry) but I was happy, it was what I wanted for a long time. After the third, fourth month of using it, I learned to insert the cup without any problem, and much faster than before.
It is important to have patience and not to despair, in the end it is an intimate moment with ourselves where we learn to know ourselves better. I also had the advantage of the quarantine during the learning process because I did not leave the house, I was not in a hurry to go out or anything like that.
Currently I have a little over a year using it and I recommend it with my eyes closed, besides being environmentally friendly, you save a lot, you can go to the beach or pool with your period without worrying about staining or changing because you can last more than 6 hours and nothing happens. No risk of infection as can happen with tampax at the beach or pool that you have to change it every 2-3 hours, with the cup nothing goes in or out.
My recommendations or tips
Do not use it for more than 12 hours, it is very important.
Sterilize her every time she starts menstruation. Some women do it at the beginning and end of it, it's up to each one, for me once a month works for me.
There are different ways to fold the cup, get informed and use the one that works best for you.
You can place it not only in the toilet, but also crouched down in the shower.
Don't be afraid that it's going to get lost in there, know your body's anatomy.
Regarding sexual intercourse, it is possible as long as there is no vaginal penetration.
If the menstrual cup is not very flexible or hard, do not use it, it must be flexible enough to be bent and inserted.
Not used for vaginal discharge
And last but not least: be patient, it is a process, like everything else.
