The Inmigrant, Sueños de Libertad ~ Review 🎬

¿Que estarías dispuesto hacer para ser libre? ¿Hasta donde llegarías para salvarle la vida una ser querido?

La película que les recomiendo hoy plantea esas dos preguntas, cuenta una historia que me conmovió pues trata el tema de la inmigración.

La película se llama The Inmigrant, en español le colocaron el título "Sueños de Libertad" y si, es exactamente eso, el sueño de dos mujeres que llegan a Estados Unidos en busca de libertad, huyendo de la guerra en su país.

What would you be willing to do to be free? How far would you go to save the life of a loved one?

The movie I recommend today raises these two questions, it tells a story that moved me because it deals with the issue of immigration.

The movie is called The Immigrant, and yes, it is exactly that, the dream of two women who arrive in the United States in search of freedom, fleeing from the war in their country.

Esta ambientada en los años 1920, cuando estaba en su auge la primera guerra mundial y con eso llegaban muchos inmigrantes de Europa a los Estados Unidos, en busca de una mejor vida. Cuenta con un reparto de lujo: Marion Cotillard, Joaquin Phoenix y Jeremy Renner, personalmente me gusta mucho como actúan cada uno de estos actores y al reunirse en este filme hicieron un gran trabajo.

La historia comienza con las dos hermanas Ewa y Magda que llegaron en barco a la isla Ellis en New York, están en la fila de inmigración para ser evaluadas y poder entrar al país. Desde allí ya la película se pone tensa, pues Magda esta tosiendo mucho y enseguida los policías la sacan de la fila y la llevan a cuarentena, sospechando de que tiene tuberculosis. Ese es una escena angustiante pues ellas solo se tenían la una a la otra, unos minutos antes estaban conversando sobre lo felices que serían en ese nuevo país y de pronto todo empieza a salirle mal.

It is set in the 1920's, when World War I was at its peak and many immigrants from Europe were arriving to the United States in search of a better life. It has a luxury cast: Marion Cotillard, Joaquin Phoenix and Jeremy Renner, personally I like very much how each of these actors act and when they met in this film they did a great job.

The story begins with the two sisters Ewa and Magda arriving by boat to Ellis Island in New York, they are in the immigration line to be evaluated and be able to enter the country. From there, the film becomes tense, as Magda is coughing a lot and immediately the policemen take her out of the line and take her to quarantine, suspecting that she has tuberculosis. This is a distressing scene because they only had each other, a few minutes before they were talking about how happy they would be in this new country and suddenly everything starts to go wrong.

Ewa se queda angustiada en la fila y le promete a su hermana que la sacaría pronto de allí. Cuando es su turno para pasar por inmigración el guardia no le permite la entrada y la pasan a una fila para deportación.

Cuanta angustia en estos primeros minutos de la película, quien a pasado por una situación de inmigración sabe lo difícil que es poner todas las esperanzas en un lugar y que de pronto todo sale mal y esos sueños se van deshaciendo como agua en las manos.

Mientras Ewa esta en la fila de deportación, angustida y sin saber que más hacer para salvarse ella y a su hermana, se presenta un hombre que le ofrece ayuda, ella sin pensarlo la acepta y el logra hacerla entrar al país. Parece que las cosas van a mejorar para ella.

Ewa stands anxiously in line and promises her sister that she will get her out of there soon. When it is her turn to go through immigration the guard does not allow her to enter and she is moved to a deportation line.

How much anguish in these first minutes of the film, who has gone through an immigration situation knows how difficult it is to put all your hopes in one place and suddenly everything goes wrong and those dreams are unraveling like water in your hands.

While Ewa is in the deportation line, anguished and not knowing what else to do to save herself and her sister, a man shows up and offers to help her, she accepts without thinking and he manages to get her into the country. It looks like things are going to get better for her.

Este hombre, llamado Bruno, la lleva a su casa y le ofrece trabajo como costurera, ella allí comienza a observar su situación y empieza a caer en cuenta de que está en problemas, sin saber en manos de quien está, ella está vulnerable a merced de un hombre desconocido. El le ofrece dormir en una cama en la sala, que descanse, que se bañe y que al día siguiente trabajaría de costurera.

Al día siguiente el la lleva al supuesto trabajo, que en realidad no se trataba de ser costurera, el hombre es un proxeneta y la lleva a un prostíbulo donde a ella no le queda mas remedio que aceptar para conseguir dinero y asi sacar a su hermana de la Isla Ellis, pagar su tratamiento para la tuberculosis y poder lograr hacer una vida allí en ese nuevo país.

Este hombre, Bruno demuestra tener interés en ella, incluso llega a hacer cosas por ella para ayudarla que no haría con las demás mujeres que trabajan para el, podría decirse que el se enamoró de ella, y le promete ayudarla si ella trabaja. Ewa saca fuerzas, pone en su mente la posibilidad de reencontrarse con su hermana y accede a trabajar.

This man, named Bruno, takes her to his house and offers her a job as a seamstress, there she begins to observe her situation and begins to realize that she is in trouble, without knowing in whose hands she is, she is vulnerable at the mercy of an unknown man. He offers her to sleep in a bed in the living room, to rest, to take a bath and that the next day she would work as a seamstress.

The next day he takes her to the supposed job, which in reality was not about being a seamstress, the man is a pimp and takes her to a brothel where she has no choice but to accept in order to get money to get her sister out of Ellis Island, pay for her tuberculosis treatment and be able to make a life for herself in this new country.

This man, Bruno, shows interest in her, he even does things for her to help her that he would not do with the other women who work for him, you could say that he fell in love with her, and he promises to help her if she works. Ewa gets her strength up, puts in her mind the possibility of being reunited with her sister and agrees to work.

Que difícil situación, tener que vender su cuerpo para poder sobrevivir y salvar a su hermana, sin duda ser inmigrante es una situación trágica para muchos que van sin recursos a un nuevo país y se ven obligados a hacer cosas impensables para salir adelante. Ewa decía que se odiaba a si misma, odiaba a ese hombre, y se arrepentía de haber confiado en el, pero sabía que ya no había más remedio, tenía que seguir luchando.

Hubo una ocasión en la que ella roba algo de dinero y logra huir en busca de una dirección donde se suponía viven unos tíos de ella que las iban a recibir allí en Broklin pero que no se presentaron en la Isla el día que ellas llegaron. Ella consigue la casa de sus familiares, les pide ayuda y se queda a dormir allí, solo que a la mañana siguiente la entregan a la policía y se la llevan a la isla de nuevo. Que tristeza, las personas que se supone la cuidarian la rechazaron y dejaron a su suerte.

What a difficult situation, having to sell her body in order to survive and save her sister, no doubt being an immigrant is a tragic situation for many who go without resources to a new country and are forced to do unthinkable things to get ahead. Ewa said she hated herself, hated that man, and regretted having trusted him, but she knew there was no choice, she had to keep fighting.

There was an occasion in which she stole some money and managed to flee in search of an address where her aunt and uncle were supposed to live, who were going to receive them there in Broklin but did not show up on the island the day they arrived. She gets the house of her relatives, asks them for help and stays there to sleep, only that the next morning she is handed over to the police and taken back to the island. How sad, the people who were supposed to take care of her rejected her and left her to her fate.

Es allí cuando la historia empieza a ir más de prisa, ella está de nuevo en la Isla Ellis, intenta buscar a su hermana, no la consigue, conoce por casualidad a un joven que es mago, el le regala una rosa blanca y queda admirado por la belleza de Ewa. Más tarde llega Bruno a buscarla y se la lleva de nuevo.

Conocer a este joven desencadena una serie de acontecimientos que terminan involucrando a Ewa y a Bruno en un asesinato, acusan a Ewa y una vez que la policía la está persiguiendo ella se esconde y agarran a Bruno dándole una paliza y robándole todo el dinero que había juntado para sacar a la hermana de Ewa, Magda de la cuarentena en la Isla.

Confieso que sentí pena de Bruno pues se ve que realmente está poniendo su vida en juego por ayudar a Ewa. Ella se conmueve por el, lo ayuda a volver a casa, una vez más ella se encuentra sin salida para resolver su situación, así que acude en última instancia a una persona para que le de el dinero y lo obtiene. Con eso se van Bruno y ella a la Isla a buscar a Magda.

It is there when the story begins to go more quickly, she is back on Ellis Island, she tries to look for her sister, she does not get it, she meets by chance a young man who is a magician, he gives her a white rose and is admired by the beauty of Ewa. Later Bruno arrives to look for her and takes her away again.

Meeting this young man triggers a series of events that end up involving Ewa and Bruno in a murder, they accuse Ewa and once the police are chasing her she hides and they catch Bruno beating him up and stealing all the money he had collected to get Ewa's sister Magda out of quarantine on the Island.

I confess that I felt sorry for Bruno because I can see that he is really putting his life on the line to help Ewa. She is moved by him, helps him get home, once again she finds herself with no way out to resolve her situation, so she ultimately goes to a person to give her the money and gets it. With that she and Bruno go to the island to look for Magda.

Allí en el ápice del suspenso de la historia, Ewa que ya sentía cierta empatia por Bruno, descubre quien ocasiono toda su desgracia, algo que de cierta forma la película nos lo muestra al principio solo que es hasta allí que todo se devela claramente.

Al final Bruno le da unos pasajes para ella y para su hermana y le dice que se vayan lejos ha hacer su vida. Y así lo hacen, las hermanas de reúnen salen en busca de la libertad que tanto anhelaban.

There, at the apex of the suspense of the story, Ewa, who already felt some empathy for Bruno, discovers who caused all his misfortune, something that in a way the film shows us at the beginning, but it is only until then that everything is clearly revealed.

At the end Bruno gives her tickets for her and her sister and tells her to go far away to make her life. And so they do, the sisters leave in search of the freedom they have been longing for.

Esta película tocó una tecla dolorosa en mi, pues sentí mucha empatia por esta mujer, inmigrante que se enfrentó a lo peor para ser libre y salvar a su hermana, se responde las preguntas del inicio, estarías dispuesto hacer lo que sea por ser libre, por ser feliz y por cuidar de los tuyos. Claro que hay formas decentes de hacerlo, y es por eso que en situaciones de desespero debemos tener cuidado en quien confíar pues podemos empeorar la situación.

Ser inmigrante es una experiencia dura de vivir, no todos tienen las misma suerte y hay que tener mucha fuerza y valentía para salir adelante, entre lágrimas y trabajos inusitados que te probarán hasta el límite, pero que tarde o temprano las cosas van a tomar su rumbo y mejorarán.

Amé esta película, realmente la recomiendo, esta muy bien lograda, se siente el suspenso, los diálogos son interesantes, y hay que prestarle atención de principio a fin pues cada escena es importante para el hilo de la historia. Reserve algunos detalles importantes de la trama para no hacer spoiler, por eso te animo que que la veas y te conmuevas e inspires con esta historia.

This movie touched a painful key in me, because I felt a lot of empathy for this woman, an immigrant who faced the worst to be free and save her sister, it answers the questions at the beginning, would you be willing to do anything to be free, to be happy and to take care of your loved ones. Of course there are decent ways to do it, and that is why in desperate situations we must be careful who we trust because we can make the situation worse.

Being an immigrant is a hard experience to live, not everyone has the same luck and you have to have a lot of strength and courage to get ahead, between tears and unusual jobs that will test you to the limit, but sooner or later things will take their course and get better.

I loved this movie, I really recommend it, it is very well done, you can feel the suspense, the dialogues are interesting, and you have to pay attention from beginning to end because every scene is important for the thread of the story. I reserve some important details of the plot so as not to make spoilers, so I encourage you to see it and be moved and inspired by this story.
