Día de la Zulianidad

Con el afanoso motivo de enaltecer nuestras tradiciones y costumbres, de arraizar nuestros valores culturales que identifican la idiosincrasia de ser oriundo de las tierras zulianas, hoy, 28 de enero, todos los nacidos y pobladores de esta vasta región venezolana, estamos en el deber de celebrar el “Día de la Zulianidad”.

En defensa de la identidad zuliana y para imponer la causa de “…poner y restituir al pueblo en el uso y goce de su libertad soberana, para darse el gobierno que le sea más grato y conveniente…”, un día como hoy (1821), el Gobernador de la Provincia de Maracaibo Francisco Delgado, a nombre del pueblo declaró la independencia del Zulia, logrando la autonomía de la región. Se ejecuta la adhesión del Estado Soberano del Zulia a la antigua República de Colombia (denominada por la historiografía como “Gran Colombia”, ya desintegrada en los actuales momentos).

La región no estuvo de acuerdo con los procesos de independencia de 1810 y 1811, permaneciendo fiel a la corona española. Finalmente, en 1821, el ayuntamiento zuliano decide la ruptura con España, dando paso al enfrentamiento de la Batalla Naval del Lago el 24 de Julio de 1823. Ocurriendo la salida final de las fuerzas españolas (Gnral. español Francisco Tomás Morales) y cerrando así la sangrienta independencia de la región “gran colombina”. Al separarse el Zulia (Provincia de Maracaibo) del yugo español, se une a la “Gran Colombia” como una región independiente y democrática en condiciones igualitarias con respecto a las entidades: Nueva Granada (Colombia), Venezuela, Ecuador.

A partir del año 2002, se ha venido celebrando este día festivo para toda la Zulianidad, en todo lo ancho de nuestro país venezolano; con lo cual se reconoce la loable labor del pueblo trabajador, que siembra, pesca, cría, transporta, comercializa, agrupa, culturiza, sana, educa y produce bienes y servicios para toda Venezuela y sus alrededores.

En todas las escuelas y liceos de la región zuliana han celebrado ésta efemérides durante toda la semana, debatiendo temas regionales como geografía e historia, exponiendo la cultura popular en cuanto a los platos típicos de la región (patacones pisao, mandocas, chucho en mojito, iguana cañadera, bocachico relleno, arepa cabimera, tequeyoyo maracucho, tumbarrancho, bocadillo de plátano o guayaba, entre otros…), además de la comida está la música (gaitas de tambora, gaitas perijaneras, tambores de chimbángles y los bailes tradicionales, etc.) y las danzas tradicionales como la Yonna wayuu, al igual que los trajes y artesanía oriunda de la región.

Zulianidad Day

With the zealous motive of exalting our traditions and customs, of rooting our cultural values that identify the idiosyncrasy of being a native of the lands of Zulia, today, January 28, all those born and settlers of this vast Venezuelan region, we are in the duty to celebrate the "Day of Zulianidad".

In defense of the Zulian identity and to impose the cause of "...putting and restoring the people in the use and enjoyment of their sovereign freedom, to give themselves the government that is more pleasing and convenient...", one day like today (1821), the Governor of the Province of Maracaibo Francisco Delgado, on behalf of the people declared the independence of Zulia, achieving the autonomy of the region. The adhesion of the Sovereign State of Zulia to the former Republic of Colombia (called by historiography as "Gran Colombia", already disintegrated at the present time) is executed.

The region did not agree with the independence processes of 1810 and 1811, remaining loyal to the Spanish crown. Finally, in 1821, the Zulian city council decided to break with Spain, giving way to the confrontation of the Naval Battle of the Lake on July 24, 1823. The final departure of the Spanish forces (Spanish General Francisco Tomás Morales) took place, thus closing the bloody independence of the "great Colombian" region. When Zulia (Province of Maracaibo) was separated from the Spanish yoke, it joined the "Great Colombia" as an independent and democratic region in equal conditions with respect to the entities: New Granada (Colombia), Venezuela, Ecuador.

Since 2002, this holiday has been celebrated for all the Zulianidad, throughout the width of our Venezuelan country; which recognizes the laudable work of the working people, who sow, fish, breed, transport, market, group, culture, heal, educate and produce goods and services for all of Venezuela and its surroundings.

In all schools and high schools in the Zulia region have celebrated this event throughout the week, discussing regional issues such as geography and history, exposing the popular culture in terms of the typical dishes of the region (patacones pisao, mandocas, chucho en mojito, iguana cañadera, bocachico relleno, arepa cabimera, tequeyoyo maracucho, tumbarrancho, banana or guava sandwich, among others...). ), besides the food there is the music (gaitas de tambora, gaitas perijaneras, chimbángles drums and traditional dances, etc.. ) and traditional dances such as the Yonna Wayuu, as well as the costumes and handicrafts native to the region.
