Jesus of Nazareth proved to be an extraordinary, unique and unrepeatable man, wise, intelligent, daring, prudent, just, authentic, courageous and with great mettle. His ability to detect the ins and outs and evil intentions of those who tried to go against his ministry was admirable. In the Gospel of Saint Matthew (21,23-27) the evangelist says that Jesus came to the temple and, while he was teaching, the chief priests and the elders of the town approached him to ask: «By what authority are you doing this? Who has given you such authority? »; But Jesus, the Master of Teachers, showing faultless mastery of the dialectic, replied with another question: "If you answer it, I will also tell you with what authority I do this. John's baptism, where did it come from, from heaven? or of men?"

Faced with the unexpected question of the Messiah, they remained silent because they knew that whatever answer they gave they would be naked before the people, they, just as their ancestors did, never recognized the prophets, that is why they had rejected John the Baptist. The common people respected and followed John, so if they answered "from heaven," the safest thing was that Jesus would ask them: "Then why didn't you believe the Baptist?" But if they answered that John's Baptism came "from men," they would also get into trouble with the people because everyone had John as a prophet. Then, faced with this dilemma and plunged into their supine cowardice, they decided to answer Jesus: "We don't know."

The high priests and the elders of the town feel discovered, there is no way to respond to Jesus, who with masterful elegance unmasks them again, thus revealing their twisted attitude and their hoax. Jesus was not caught in their nets of wickedness, so when they refused to answer, Jesus said to them: "Well, neither will I tell you with what authority I do this." Wonderful our Lord Jesus Christ! This chapter in the life of our Lord and Savior should call us to reflection, all our responses must be previously analyzed and go through the filter of prudence and justice so that with intelligence and wisdom we can get out of situations that seek to compromise us. Deliver us Lord from all evil! Amen

Do you know where the authority of Christ comes from? It comes from your union with the Father, from being One with Him and with the Holy Spirit. The authority of Jesus at that time is manifested in his refusal to respond to those who came for him.

Y respondieron a Jesús:
«No sabemos».

Gloria a ti Señor Jesus

Reading from the holy gospel according to Matthew (21,23-27):

At that time, Jesus arrived at the temple and, while he was teaching, the chief priests and the elders of the people approached him to ask:
"Under what authority are you doing this? Who has given you such authority?
Jesus replied:
«I'm going to ask you a question too; If you answer it, I will also tell you with what authority I do this. The baptism of John, where did it come from, from heaven or from men? ».
They began to deliberate:
«If we say 'from heaven', he will say to us: 'Why haven't you believed him?' If we say "of men", we fear people; because all have John as a prophet.
And they answered Jesus:
"We do not know".
He, for his part, told them:
"Well, I don't tell you with what authority I do this either."

Lord's word

Glory to you Lord Jesus
