When my beloved wife began her studies at the University, she met a companion who lived near the Church of the Coromoto, in Paradise; the friendship between them grew and fortunately remains until now. My wife's friend is a Christian and professes the Catholic faith so every Sunday she religiously went to Mass, my wife accompanied her on several occasions, but for more than thirty years she had not returned to that holy place. Yesterday she asked me to accompany her and we went to visit the beautiful temple.

When we arrived at the place the temple was closed, but after 30 minutes of waiting they opened it and we managed to enter, but not before complying with the strict biosecurity measures they require. We took advantage of the beginning of the reciting of the holy rosary and began to take photographs which I will show later.

When we returned to our apartment I looked on the web for information that could help me with this publication and I found some interesting information, the Alfonso María de Ligorio Ecclesiastical Parish / Sanctuary of Our Lady of Coromoto is a building from the forties, its construction was inspired by the Congregation of the Most Holy Redeemer. The information found says that in the late 1940s they sought the support of the private sector; However, the project was financed by the houses of the Redemptorists inside and outside the country, as well as by the inhabitants of El Paraíso. For its realization, the architect of Basque origin Urbano de Manchobas was commissioned. The earthworks began in 1949. However, the first pile would be installed on June 6, 1952, in an act presided over by Bishop Rafael Arias Blanco. The sanctuary was inaugurated and consecrated on May 23, 1961, by the Venezuelan Archbishop and Cardinal José Humberto Quintero

Much of the information I found was verified by my twin sons, both civil engineers, who, upon seeing the photographs, explained every detail of the architectural description to me. The sanctuary has an area of 1,000 m² (50 m x 20 m). It is made up of a central nave and two lateral ones in which there are nine altars for various saints and Marian invocations. The choir is located on the lateral naves as a perimeter tribune of the central nave. It has two twin 45 m high towers, which also function as bell towers. The transept is topped by a dome pointed with a lantern. This dome is lined with ceramics donated by the Central University of Venezuela, as surplus material from the construction of the University City. The yellow, blue and red colors visible from the outskirts evoke those of the Venezuelan flag.

Upon entering the temple what caught my attention was the main altar and on it the imposing image of our patron saint, the Virgin of Coromoto, who by the way was premiering a new dress that was donated to her. I also loved the different stained glass windows that are everywhere, true works of art with allegories related to the Church.

Finally I want to leave a curious fact that I found in the digital newspaper, El Diario which titled: Caracas church They reinvent themselves with cars in a pandemic. And as a subtitle: The Nuestra Señora de Coromoto church, in Caracas, began to implement automobiles in the parking lot of the temple so that believers can enjoy the celebration of the Eucharist. Below photographs of one of the Automisas.
