A different concept, has always been the phrase used to distinguish the quality of a game with respect to others, that was F-Zero, a futuristic title that combined the racing genre with the genre of fiction, vehicles that were mobilized by means of plasma propellants that allowed them to fly at a short height to move at fairly high speeds in the respective circuits, To see this game was a way of seeing, for example, the popular cartoon "The Supersonics", which proposed a totally different style, alien to what was already known and with a bet that would mean the basis for the games of the future and of our present time.

Un concepto diferente, siempre ha sido la frase que utilizada para distinguir la calidad de un juego con respecto a otros, eso mismo era F-Zero, un título futurista que combinaba el género de carreras con el género de ficción, vehículos que se movilizaban por medio de propulsores de plasma que les permitía volar a una corta altura para desplazarse a velocidades bastante elevadas en los respectivos circuitos, ver este juego, era una forma de ver por ejemplo la popular caricatura "Los Supersonicos", que planteaban un estilo totalmente diferente, ajeno a lo ya conocido y con una apuesta que significaría la base para los juegos del futuro y de nuestra actualidad.

F-Zero had 4 different vehicles, each of them with variables in design, speed, acceleration, weight and some other aspects that were detailed when selecting them, so we could choose the one we considered as the best option.
F-Zero disponía de 4 diferentes vehículos, cada uno de ellos con las variables en diseño, velocidad, aceleración, peso y algunos otros aspectos que se detallaban a la hora de seleccionarlos, de esta forma podíamos elegir el que consideráramos como mejor opción.

One aspect that could be considered as weak of the game was the absence of multiplayer mode, something that would have been amazing for this futuristic title, the game had the practice mode to improve our driving skills that used to be quite necessary because of the enormous difficulty of the game, and the Grand Prix mode that could be played in 3 different leagues: Knight, Queen, King, and in each of them you could choose between 3 levels of difficulty, being the "expert" a level in which it was quite difficult to get the victories along the 15 tracks available in each league.
Un aspecto que se podía considerar como débil del juego era la ausencia del modo multijugador, algo que hubiese quedado increíble para este título futurista, el juego contaba con el modo prácticas para mejorar nuestras habilidades de manejo que solía ser bastante necesario por la enorme dificultad del juego, y el modo Grand Prix que se podía jugar en 3 diferentes ligas: Knight, Queen, King, y en cada una de ellas se podía elegir entre 3 niveles de dificultad, siendo el de "experto" un nivel en el que era bastante difícil conseguir las victorias a lo largo de las 15 pistas disponibles de cada liga.

Pasando a hablar un poco sobre la jugabilidad y aspectos gráficos de F-Zero, es importante primero mencionar que el juego para lograr esos efectos visuales de profundidad en 3D tan característicos, eran realizados gracias la "Modo7", que era una forma de acoplar los planos 2D para crear un efecto visual de 3D, una forma bastante ingeniosa en aquel momento que permitía lograr ese revolucionario efecto visual en el que simplemente veíamos la rotación de una superficie.

As for the gameplay, F-Zero had some controls for the vehicle quite comfortable and easy to memorize, the triggers "L" and "R" were used to tilt our vehicle and correct the position on the track, this was advisable to use, because if we used the arrow keys, the vehicle could make movements a little abrupt, there was a button for acceleration and a button to deploy the popular turbo, an element that was achieved by completing each lap on the circuit and that we could use whenever we wanted, although it was advisable to use it in straight areas.
En cuanto a la jugabilidad, F-Zero contaba con unos controles para el vehículo bastante cómodos y fáciles de memorizar, los gatillos "L" y "R" servían para inclinar nuestro vehículo y corregir la posición en la pista, esto era recomendable de utilizar, debido a que si usábamos las flechas de dirección, el vehículo podía hacer movimientos un poco bruscos, se contaba con un botón para la aceleración y un botón para desplegar el popular turbo, elemento que se conseguía la completar cada vuelta en el circuito y que podíamos utilizar cuando quisiéramos, aunque esto era recomendable utilizarlo en zonas rectas.

We had to be very cautious when driving, because our vehicle had a damage bar that was decreasing as we hit the ends of the track, a rival or simply the non-flat areas of the circuit, every time this bar decreased a lot, we got an alert on the screen, and if it reached the minimum, our vehicle exploded and we automatically lost the race, Fortunately, there was a peculiar way to regenerate the state of the vehicle, and it was passing over a restoration area that was always a little ahead of the starting line, this did not completely restore the vehicle, but it gave a small recovery that allowed us a little more slack to continue in competition.
Debíamos ser bastantes precavidos a la hora de manejar, pues nuestro vehículo contaba con una barra de daño que se iba disminuyendo a medida que golpeáramos los extremos de la pista, algún rival o simplemente las zonas no planas del circuito, cada vez que disminuía mucho esta barra, nos salía una alerta en la pantalla, y si llegaba al mínimo, nuestro vehículo explotaba y perdimos automáticamente la carrera, por fortuna, existía una peculiar forma de regenerar el estado del vehículo, y era pasando por encima de una zona de restauración que siempre se encontraba un poco más adelante de la linea de salida, esto no restauraba por completo el vehículo, pero si daba una pequeña recuperación que nos permitía un poco más de holgura para continuar en competencia.

Este gran título llegó a ser lo bastante influyente como para vender más de un millón de copias en todo el mundo, siendo motivo de ejemplo para los siguientes juegos a ser estrenados bajo el mismo género, la capacidad de completar campeonatos y recibir como recompensa un nuevo nivel de dificultad, el hecho de variar un poco el diseño de las pistas como premio luego de haber llegado en primer lugar en ellas, la ambientación musical, y todos sus aspectos de jugabilidad que hacían de F-Zero un juego hecho para expertos al volante, con un desafío más allá de lo pensado, capaz de poner al máximo el uso de nuestras habilidades y demostrar cuan capaces eramos de completar ligas en el máximo nivel de juego, enfrentando a pistas con curvas imposibles y rivales manejados por la cpu con un nivel extremo, todo esto y más llevó a que F-Zero se convirtiese en una gran referencia para los juegos de carreras.

Star Fox was another game that managed to create a 3D effect on 2D hardware.

I had the N64 sequel to F-Zero. It was so frustrating when I'd go too fast and drive off the track.

But Star Fox did actually use 3D hardware. It was one of only a couple games to use the Super FX chip. Basically, the cart had a GPU in it.

I didn't get to play the title on the N64, but I did for a long time on the SNES, it was great to see the masterful ingenuity with which they performed feats like these with so few resources and squeezing the most out of what they had available.

F-Zero was the first game I bought for the Super Nintendo and still one of my favorites.

Great times, I think the games that most excited me to buy were those of the N64, the time I bought Mario Kart and Super Smash Bros were indescribable moments, today those feelings are perceived but not in the magnitudes of that time.
