Walking and Picking Chanterelles with my Mom and Youngest Brother

avatar

The last walk I posted was from Porto, Portugal. Well, I'm back in Sweden again πŸ™‚

I have started working this week after my 5 weeks holiday. Last Friday I left Stockholm again though, I wanted to spend some more time in the countryside and as you might know, I'm able to work remotely.

This week it already feels like summer is over though. In a way perfect timing for me. It has been raining (which is very much needed) and it's only around 18 degrees Celsius. Last Sunday I went on a walk with my mom and youngest brother. (Actually last Saturday also but my autistic brother was so angry then so it wasn't really a relaxed walk). Thankfully he felt better the next day. My mom usually takes him for walks that are far away from other people because he can really scream. I guess not everyone would understand what's going on with him.

It was only about 4 weeks ago since I last visited my mom but so much had changed in nature. A month ago everything was still so fresh. Now it's still green but I could see so much already decaying.

That beige grass wasn't there a month ago. I really liked it. I don't think I have paid so much attention to that before.

After just a short while it cleared up and due to the sun also became much warmer. I spotted a lot of yarrow, not really seen in the pictures though. (A reminder that I should pick some and dry since it has so many benefits).

More logging had taken place. (I have posted pictures of that earlier in this area).

Bluebells were in bloom also a month ago and now you could see that many had withered (like one of them in the picture above).

As you might see it's dry outside.

I spotted several butterflies but it was a difficult challenge to try and take a photo of them with my phone. At least you might be able to spot one of them in the picture above πŸ™‚

My mom was more or less expecting to find chanterelles because she has several (secret) spots in this area. And she was right! Of course I helped her to pick some πŸ™‚

This was on the way back. We stopped the car just by the road for a quick dip in the lake. This walk was about 6 kilometers but it took some time because we also picked chantarelles. I was already very hungry here and we has a late lunch that day. So nice to get out during the day though. I get reminded of that now when I have to spend my days in front of a screen again...

But I'm not complaining. I think work will be rather quiet for the next couple of weeks at least. I'll have some time to adjust.

Oh wow - chanterelles! What a find! How did she cook them? I know there's an Australian version but Iv've never found one.

And look at you spying yarrow and wanting to harvest for medicine - how fabulous is that!

Haha, chanterelles are common here. I have picked them since I was a child. It's very 'safe' because the risk of confusing them with some other mushroom is very low I would say.

Well, I wanted to have them on toast so that's what she did for me πŸ™‚ (My mom really spoils me). I said ok to cook them in butter since that just tastes better (I'm not strictly vegan anymore btw). And then she just throws them into most dishes she makes. Just a small amount goes a long way with this mushroom.

Haha, yes I might write a post about yarrow if I do pick some πŸ™‚ Still planning on writing about the plant medicine retreat also πŸ™‚

Yay, can't wait to read these posts and please let me know when you do. I've never had a chanterelle!!! I'm not strictly vegan either at all. We use vegan butter, but I've used this brand for 30 years and they used to call it dairy free not vegan!

(Edited)

This was actually the first time I had butter since I gave up my vegan diet. I guess that’s why I mentioned it. It’s still new to me, not to be strictly vegan. I’m still not sure in which direction this will go. I guess it might feel ok for me to make small exceptions sometimes but I’m not sure really.

Just don't define your diet or worry about it. Eat what feels right at the time xxx

Now I know what chanterelles are. I was wondering about that when I read the title :D I can't do much with my phone too when capturing moving subjects just like butterflies. Bees are easier when they are busy on a flower :)

Haha, I'm happy to hear I seemed to have poked your interest with the title πŸ™‚

Yes, that's true about bees.

Thanks for stopping by 🌸

Such a beautiful walk, yes I spotted the butterffly and they are so hard to capture even with a camera they move around so quick never siting still in one spot for long

Thanks for joining Wednesday Walk :), I truly enjoy exploring the world virtually each Wednesday seeing walks from all around the globe and feeling I am there and experiencing it all myself, such as I did in your post just now :)

Being able to enjoy walks finding fruits, mushrooms when out roaming, where special needs brother can express himself freely, this gives everyone in the family a good stress release.

Enjoyed the walk in beautiful countryside, hope work is not busy when you return, weather cooling down makes life more enjoyable as well.

Lakes look lovely to enjoy at this time of year, I suppose in winter many become ice rinks for locals to enjoy.

Summer fun for as long as it lasts, enjoy!
