Some Statistics On Icoverage.io and It's Potential Effects On Hive
A while back(about two months), we ended our marketing campaigns for icoverage.io in order to give it some room to grow organically and not be mostly populated with paid traffic with low retention rates and thus, low business value.
Ever since, we've been more than glad with being able to see numbers for what they really are rather than what is a result of incentives, and I would say I really do love the idea of watching "actual visits rise and fall", it really just gives me a sense of success as I strategize on improvement plans.
Primarily, icoverage.io was created as a challenge to myself to do something great that in-turn not only benefits me(monetarily and a lot more ways) but also benefits the Hive ecosystem. A couple of days ago, Hive keychain was featured on icoverage and I can say more are to come as we carefully study content strategies and hopefully deploy the best working practices.
Oh, can I just say that icoverage.io looks super beautiful right now - hopefully this design sticks :)
But now, enough of the back talking, let's look at numbers as we take on this hopefully monthly report that I will be posting.
Exploring our growth after marketing closure
The following data is from the period of March 13th to April 12th, 2023.
This chart above shows the trend of new users to icoverage.io in the last one month. The thing about platforms like icoverage is that majority of the time, it holds more business potentials as though there's often a high percentage of new users coming in monthly. With icoverage, we are experiencing higher new visits than retention. This is obviously as a result of low reporting and news coverage but higher knowledge filled articles like the numerous crypto guides on the platform.
Overtime, this is expected to balance up as we'd hopefully employ a handful of journalists to create insightful coverages of the cryptocurrency ecosystem. That said, care to know who our major audiences are for these new users?
The United Fuckin States
Although the traffic from Nigeria has had more sessions and probably higher user retention but we've often had lots of United States users that 90% of the time, our content gets more hits and quite a low bounce rate:
Why does this even matter? Well, firstly, most advertisers bid higher for United States traffic due to many reasons, so having that much healthy traffic from the US is generally good for business.
Now, what is our major source of traffic?
Search Engine - Google
This is one of my favourite for obvious reasons that "Google" was and will always be my most targeted traffic source given that this is where high users get to discover our content and platform which entails more traffic to point to relevant contents, projects and products like Hive, primarily.
Also, the official icoverage.io account has been suspended on Twitter - weirdly and I didn't exactly care much about twitter traffic.
One may ask why didn't I simply do all this on my personal account here on Hive, or build a Hive frontend, well, firstly, I cannot risk my reputation because for some reason, a lot of people do not like "Introductory Guides and all similar contents in crypto" on Hive here, it is really weird because that is literally where the potential Hive users would get to discover Hive - from these contents ranking on Google, plus with icoverage I can pay people to write and not get any grumpy individual get boiling hot over something so common in the digital space.
Then again, I personally believe that Google isn't yet familiar with how Hive works, thus it would be a lot harder to get ranked as high as I'd want or for as long as I'd want. How? With Hive, when a post is published in one place, it can typically appear in many places at once because of tags and the numerous frontends. Even though these frontends may set "canonical tags" to point to the parent post, these instant duplicates of contents on Hive may appear like spam to Google and could hurt ranking if google is yet to understand why this happens.
And the last reason is not being able access the appropriate data to build improvement content strategies, so, had to be icoverage.io on a centralized server for the mean time.
To conclude, majority of our traffic is between the age of 25-34 as per our site-wide consented gathered data. Overall, I am pleased with where we're starting from, I can be sure of the consistent new eyes moving through icoverage.io, heck I believe I've even gotten a lot of eyes over to hive given that I did send a lot of traffic towards our POSH featured post on icoverage.
