Overview/Review

The story provides context regarding what led Lizzie Borden to brutally murder her father, Andrew Borden, and her stepmother, Abby Borden. It is worth noting that, according to the series, Lizzie does not act alone; rather, she is aided by her lover, Bridget Sullivan—a domestic servant in the household. In reality, however, this was never proven—in fact, it was never even established that Lizzie was the killer, as all the evidence was purely circumstantial. Nevertheless, the series eventually draws a connection to Aileen Wuornos, a serial killer from the 1980s.

My Opinion/Mi Opinión

Obviously, the series takes significant creative liberties, but that doesn’t bother me at all. Unlike adaptations of literary works—which need to maintain a certain rhythm and cohesion, given that the goal is to translate something previously experienced only through text into an audiovisual format—or adaptations based on real-life crimes with extensive, reliable documentation (like the previous installment of this series, which covered the life of Ed Gein), the case of Lizzie Borden remains ambiguous. Everyone was suspicious, but no one could prove anything; people relied on appearances or simply underestimated a woman’s power and cunning. (To be clear, I am not romanticizing her actions; I am merely providing context—at the time, no one imagined that a woman from high society could be capable of such a thing.) Therefore, these creative liberties are not only justified but necessary.

However, what really bothers me about the script is the attempt to frame it through a feminist or class-struggle lens—as if that could somehow justify the crime. And to top it all off—predictably enough—in order to add that modern touch of "inclusion," the protagonists aren't just oppressed feminists fighting for liberation; they also happen to be lesbians, haha! 😄

The script was actually quite entertaining, and the performances were superb. The horror was handled excellently during the murder scene; the camera angles, combined with the outstanding acting, resulted in a sequence that fully conveyed the characters' emotions—both those of the victims and the perpetrators. However, one aspect I really didn't enjoy—and which I consider crucial—was the musical score; in my opinion, it was terrible and completely out of sync, failing to help the viewer immerse themselves in the story.
