Hello friends! This time I bring you a classic, it's practically a videogame for kids but I like it a lot and it brings me very good memories, it's Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone in its PC version. So if you want to remember old times, get ready to know some facts while we play.
¡Hola amigos! En esta ocasión les traigo un clásico, prácticamente es un videojuego para niños pero a mí me gusta muchísimo y me traer muy buenos recuerdos, se trata de Harry Potter y la Piedra Filosofal en su versión para PC. Así que si quieren recordar viejos tiempos prepárense para conocer algunos datos mientras jugamos.
EA (Electrinics Arts) Games was the company in charge of developing this gem and released up to 5 different versions of this game. One of the things that fans criticised about this game is that the famous soundtrack by John Williams that brought so much magic to the films, was not present in this game and neither were the original actors present to give their voices to the characters. However, this is because the game was practically developed under pressure to be released at the same time as the film. However, EA later and with much more time, produced an improved version with many of the film's elements.
EA (Electrinics Arts) Games fue la empresa encargada de desarrollar esta joya y lanzó hasta 5 versiones diferentes de este juego. Una de las cosas que los fans criticaron de este juego es que la famosa banda sonora de John Williams que le aportó tanta magia a las películas, no estuvo presente en este juego y tampoco estuvieron los actores originales para darle sus voces a los personajes. Sin embargo esto se debe a que el juego prácticamente se desarrolló bajo la presión de ser lanzado al mismo tiempo que la película. No obstante EA elaboró más tarde y con mucho más tiempo una versión mejorada que contaba con varios de los elementos de la película.
And now, my friends, we are ready to play. First of all, the PC version of the game offers us a kind of tale that tells us the story of Harry Potter's origin through illustrations and the voice of a narrator.
Y ahora sí, amigos, nos disponemos a jugar. En primer lugar el juego en su versión para PC nos ofrece una especie de cuento que nos relata la historia del origen de Harry Potter mediante ilustraciones y la voz de un narrador.
We then meet Dumbledore in the hall of the castle and he tells us that we must attend our first Defence Against the Dark Arts class on the third floor.
Luego nos encontramos a Dumbledore en el vestíbulo del castillo y él nos dice que debemos asistir a nuestra primera clase de Defensa Contra las Artes oscuras en el tercer piso.
Harry prepares to attend classes but on the way he meets Ron Weasley who will become his guide to take him to his first class, but first he wants Harry to meet his brothers Fred and George because they have something to propose to him.
Harry se prepara para asistir a clases pero en el camino encontró a Ron Weasley que se convertirá en su guía para llevarlo hasta su primera clase, pero antes él quiere que Harry conozca a sus hermanos Fred y George porque ellos tienen algo que proponerle.
The Weasley twins were collecting Bartie Botts of all flavours for a special project, so they asked Harry to collect 25 Bartie Botts for them and in return they would give him a special gift. So Harry set off on his adventure but on the way he met the annoying Peeves, the poltergeist.
Los gemelos Weasley estaban coleccionando grajeas Bartie de todos los sabores para un proyecto especial, así que le pidieron a Harry que reuniera 25 grajeas para ellos y a cambio le darían un regalo especial. Por lo tanto Harry se preparó para la aventura pero en el camino se encontró con el molesto Peeves, el poltergeist.
Harry collected the doughnuts for the twins and they gave him one of those cards that come with the chocolate frogs in return. This is a very special card as it contains information about Dumbledore.
Harry reunió las grajeas para los gemelos y ellos le dieron a cambio un cromo de esos que vienen con las ranas de chocolate. Éste es un cromo muy especial ya que contiene información sobre Dumbledore.
As shown in the image, if we press the ESC key we can access the main menu where there is a kind of album where we can check how many cards of wizards and witches we have accumulated, and by selecting any of the cards we can read the information.
Tal como se muestra en la imagen, si pulsamos la tecla ESC podremos acceder al menú principal donde se encuentra una especie de álbum donde podemos comprobar cuantos cromos de magos y brujas llevamos acumulados, y seleccionando cualquiera de los cromos podemos leer la información.
Before we reached the Defence Against the Dark Arts classroom we met Draco Malfoy and his friends Crabbe and Goyle, he introduced himself to Harry and warned him not to get in his way. You can tell he's going to be a troublemaker and enjoys bullying.
Antes de llegar al salón de Defensa Contra las Artes Oscuras nos encontramos con Draco Malfoy y sus amigos Crabbe y Goyle, él chico se presentó ante Harry y le advirtió que no debía interponerse en su camino. Se nota que será un chico problemático y que disfruta haciendo Bullying.
Fortunately they left without looking for more trouble because Harry has not yet learnt how to cast his first spell. Now it was time to meet Hermione Granger.
Afortunadamente se fueron sin buscar más problemas porque Harry todavía no ha aprendido a realizar su primer hechizo. Ahora llegó el momento de conocer a Hermione Granger.
Finally Harry was able to enter his first Defence Against the Dark Arts class with Professor Quirrel, a stuttering and frightening man. To learn how to do the spell, Harry has to follow the pattern we see on the screen with his wand (we have to do it with the computer mouse and it's not as easy as it looks as we have to be very precise). The boy did it correctly so the teacher awarded 5 points to Gryffindor. Bravo!
Finalmente Harry pudo entrar a su primera clase de Defensa Contra las Artes Oscuras con el profesor Quirrel, un hombre tartamudo y asustadizo. Para aprender a realizar el hechizo, Harry debe seguir con la varita el patrón que vemos en la pantalla (nosotros debemos hacerlo con el mouse de la computadora y no es tan sencillo como parece pues debemos tener mucha precisión). El chico lo hizo correctamente, así que el profesor le otorgó 5 puntos a Gryffindor ¡Bravo!
The spell Harry has just learnt is called "Flipendo" and is used to stun enemies but also to simply hit or push objects. Professor Quirrel wanted to test Harry's newly learned skills in a challenge. For this he took him to a special place full of some obstacles that Harry has to overcome and during the journey he has to collect 20 stars to be able to pass the challenge.
El hechizo que Harry acaba de aprender se llama "Flipendo" y sirve para aturdir enemigos, pero también para simplemente golpear o empujar objetos. El profesor Quirrel quiso poner a prueba las habilidades recién aprendidas de Harry en un desafío. Para esto lo llevó a un lugar especial lleno de algunos obstáculos que Harry debe superar y durante el recorrido debe recolectar 20 estrellas para poder superarlo.
When Harry pushed the cauldrons, they tipped over and dropped a few Bertie Botts of all flavours.
Cuando Harry empujaba los calderos, estos se volcaban y dejaban caer algunas grajeas Bertie Botts de todos los sabores.
There is one of the stars that the boy wizard must reach, but it is on the other side of that door.
Ahí está una de las estrellas que el niño mago debe alcanzar, pero está al otro lado de esa puerta.
After a few "Abracadabra" oops! I meant, after a few "Flipendos" Harry was finally able to reach each of the stars he needed to complete the challenge.
Después de unos "Abracadabra" oops! quise decir, después de algunos "Flipendo", Harry finalmente pudo alcanzar cada una de las estrellas que necesitaba para completar el desafío.
Somewhere along the way Harry met Sir Nicholas de Mimsy-Porpington, better known as Nearly Headless Nick, the guardian ghost of Gryffindor. He kindly showed him a way to save his game, a book with a quill in it, so that the boy wizard could save his progress.
En algún punto del recorrido Harry encontró a Sir Nicholas de Mimsy-Porpington, mejor conocido como Nick casidecapitado, el fantasma guardián de Gryffindor. Él amablemente le mostró la forma de guardar la partida, se trata de un libro con una pluma, de esta forma el niño mago podrá guardar sus progresos.
But he also encountered some hideous creatures, goblins who, when they get too close, take Harry's Barties of all flavours, but can be defeated by using Flipendo.
Pero también encontró a unas horrendas criaturas, se trata de unos duendes que al acercase demasiado, le quitan a Harry sus grajeas Barties de todos los sabores, pero se puede derrotar usando Flipendo.
Harry then quickly went to his flying lesson with Mrs. Hooch where he learned how to fly on a broom and to do so he had to fly through some rings that were suspended in the air.
Luego Harry fue rápidamente a su clase de vuelo con la señora Hooch en la que aprendió a volar sobre una escoba, y para hacerlo debía atravesar algunos aros que estaban suspendidos en el aire.
Not only do you learn it in class, Hermione also taught Harry a very useful spell called "Alohomora" which is used to open locks and locked chests. The method is the same, follow the pattern on the screen.
No solo se aprende en clases, Hermione también le enseñó a Harry un hechizo muy útil llamado "Alohomora", sirve para abrir cerraduras y cofres cerrados. El método es el mismo, seguir el patrón que está en la pantalla.
With this spell Harry was able to find the treasures hidden in that part of the castle, any door, mirror or painting on the wall can hide a treasure.
Con este hechizo Harry pudo encontrar los tesoros escondidos en esa parte del castillo, cualquier puerta, espejo o pintura en la pared puede esconder un tesoro.
It was time for charms class with Professor Flittwick, he taught the spell "Winguardium Leviosa" which is used to levitate objects.
Llegó la hora de la clase de encantamientos con el profesor Flittwick, él le enseñó el hechizo "Winguardium Leviosa" que sirve para hacer levitar objetos.
I really liked the scenery during this challenge because even though the castle doesn't look like the one described by J.K Rowling in the book, it's very beautiful, and I also like the ambient sound, because you can hear the little birds.
Me gustó mucho el paisaje durante este desafío porque a pesar de que el castillo no se parece al que describe J.K Rowling en el libro, es muy bonito, además también me gusta el sonido ambiente, pues se escuchan los pajaritos.
When Harry got out of class, he received an owl with a message from Hermione. She asked the boy to hurry so as not to miss his Herbology class.
Al salir de clases, Harry recibió una lechuza que traía un mensaje, este mensaje era de Hermione. Ella le pidió al chico que se apresurara para no perder su clase de Herbología.
"The Boy Who Lived" tried to hurry up but Peeves appeared in his way again to challenge him, so he had to confront him, stunning him with the Flipendo spell.
"El niño que vivió" intentó apresurarse, pero Peeves volvió a aparecer en su camino para desafiarlo, así que tuvo que enfrentarse a él, aturdiéndolo con el hechizo Flipendo.
Harry managed to defeat him but lost a bit of time, so he ran off, however on the way he met Neville Longbottom who wanted to show him his new reminder, and also warned him that Malfoy was in the hall, so he had to be careful.
Harry logró derrotarlo pero perdió un poco de tiempo, así que salió corriendo, no obstante en el camino encontró a Neville Longbottom que quería mostrarle su nueva recordadora, y también le advirtió que Malfoy estaba en el vestíbulo, así que debía tener cuidado.
Malfoy was indeed there in the hall and told Harry that he would not allow him to leave the castle, but Harry was not about to give in so easily.
Efectivamente Malfoy estaba allí en el vestíbulo y le dijo a Harry que no le permitiría salir del castillo, pero Harry no estaba dispuesto a dejarse vencer tan fácilmente.
Malfoy started to throw some magical explosives in an attempt to defeat Harry, but Harry picked them up and threw them back at Malfoy, defeating him for good.
Malfoy comenzó a lanzar unos explosivos mágicos para intentar derrotar a Harry, pero él los tomó y se los lanzó de vuelta a Malfoy, venciéndolo definitivamente.
Malfoy left in defeat and humiliation, Harry was finally able to leave the castle to meet Hermione at the entrance to the Herbology garden, but on the way he met Hagrid who wanted to greet him and asked him to come and visit him at his house after school.
Malfoy se marchó derrotado y humillado, Harry finalmente pudo salir del castillo para encontrase con Hermione en la entrada del jardín de Herbología, pero en el camino se encontró a Hagrid que quería saludarlo y le pidió que fuese a visitarlo a su casa después de clases.
Hermione was there, waiting for Harry but asked him to go to the Herbology room alone while she waited for Neville because he seemed to have got lost.
Hermione estaba ahí, esperando a Harry, pero le pidió que se fuera solo al salón de Herbología mientras ella esperaba a Neville porque al perecer él se había perdido.
So Harry went along the road enjoying the scenery until he came across these horrendous creatures, they are some kind of giant snail, but I wanted to leave the game until here. I'll pick it up another day and if you like it I'll share it with you.
De esta forma Harry se fue por el camino disfrutando del paisaje hasta que se encontró con estas horrendas criaturas, son una especie de caracol gigante, pero yo quise dejar la partida hasta aquí, ya la retomaré luego y si les gusta la compartiré con ustedes.
In my humble opinion it's a very complete videogame as it contains several challenges, mini-games and even secret rooms that we must discover as we advance in the story, we can even play quidditch and although its version of Hogwarts castle is not the best as it is from game 5 (The Order of the Phoenix), the developers made a good attempt and also put beautiful scenarios that I liked a lot, as a fan of the Harry Potter franchise.
En mi humilde opinión es un videojuego muy completo ya que contiene varios desafíos, minijuegos y hasta habitaciones secretas que debemos ir descubriendo mientras avanzamos en la historia, incluso podemos jugar al quidditch y aunque su versión del castillo Hogwarts no es la mejor como sí lo es a partir del juego 5 (La Orden del Fénix), los desarrolladores hicieron un buen intento y además pusieron escenarios bonitos que a mí, como fan de la franquicia Harry Potter, me gustaron mucho.

Este juego me trae muchos recuerdos de mi infancia. Uno de los primeros juegos que jugué en mi vieja PS1 fue el de la cámara de los secretos, ese juego fue realmente épico. Yo he querido que les hagan remake para disfrutarlos con gráficos más actuales y mecánicas más trabajadas, pero aún no se cumple mi sueño. Hace poco empecé a leer los libros por recomendación de un amigo, son increíbles.
Yo soy fan y también te los recomiendo, te engancharás seguramente. AMO la saga y estoy completamente de acuerdo contigo porque también me gustaría que hicieran un remake para poder disfrutar mejor de la experiencia del juego.
¿Has jugado la Orden del fénix? Ese tiene mejores gráficos y es muuucho más completo, aparece el castillo en toda su extensión tal y como es narrado en el libro, y además cuenta con las voces de los actores originales, doblando a los personajes, así que uno lo disfruta mucho más.
oh, un clásico, principalmente jugué la versión de PSX (Quizá la más conocida por todos los memes burlándose de su aspecto físico) y le tengo muchísimo cariño, esta versión la llegué a probar y es bastante buena, quizá la más sólida de todas en términos de calidad.
Sí vale un verdadero clásico, yo también le tengo muchísimo cariño porque me recuerda mi adolescencia, ciertamente es el que mejor calidad tiene con respecto a los demás, pero lo que yo más disfrutaba jugando y (todavía disfruto) es ir descubriendo cada secreto escondido.

Very nice review of this classic. I´m kind of waiting for a 3D Metaverse application of this. I think there are so many Harry Potter fans out there, a game like this would just go Boom in terms of users :-)
