About the Quote

Taking ownership means taking control. This includes taking control of failures as well as successes. Whoever takes control of a situation has the freedom to pursure a course of action which leads to success. Should there be failure, then whoever takes control has the freedom to take whatever action is deemed necessary to resume course to a successful path.

Since a team has ownership of its situation and circumstances, there is no longer any need to worry about many outside influences. The team can focus on what it has to do to reach its goals and desired outcomes. When failure happens, the team which had taken ownership can take time to review what had happen and form a plan to rectify that failure.

Taking ownership means taking responsibility for what happens and for what doesn't happen. Responsibility is needed to achieve greatness.
