About the Quote

Having a strong work ethic helps to keep days like that to a minimum. A weak work ethic, on the other hand, isn't good for anyone; after a while, that can lead to termination or dismissal or abandonment.

Every day we're supposed to do something to move forward. It could be work toward completing a course of study. It could be researching possible investments (DYOR!). It could even be whatever is in the to-do list the employer gives each employee.

When we take a vacation or some sort of leavve of absence (whether for invalid reasons such as a hangover from the night before, or for valid reasons such as jury duty or bereavement leave), we find that our work loads tend to look big. The same thing happens if during the work day we didn't get anything done when there were things to get done. (Some days, there really isn't anything to get done, so those days don't count here.)

Some (More) Information about Lou Holtz

After one season as head coach of the Notre Dame football program, the Fighting Irish, improved enough to earn a berth in the Cotton Bowl Classic during Bowl Season at the end of the year.

Unlike in college basketball and most other sports, there is no playoff tournament for college football. Instead, a number of one-and-done games is played at the end of the year in what is known as Bowl Season. Season 3 for the Fighting Irish under Lou Holtz ended with a berth in the Fiesta Bowl on the strength of a season which featured zero losses in regular season. As a result of defeating the West Virginia Mountaineers in the Fiesta Bowl, the Fighting Irish claimed possession of the "national championship".

The Fighting Irish under Lou Holtz would have similar success during seasons from 1991 through 1993. During this period, they would win 3 consecutive games (1 each year).

Lou Holtz continued as head coach of the Fighting Irish proram until 1996. This is when he retired as head coach for reasons known only to him. During the 1997 and 1998 college football seasons he worked for CBS Sports as a color commentator. In 1999, the lure of coaching college football was strong enough to bring him out of retirement. This time, Lou Holtz would be head coach of the Gamecocks program at the University of South Carolina.
