Someone may be passionate about playing tennis, but may only be mediocre at it even after training 8 hours a day every day for ten years. That's not enough to be able to earn gainful employment as a professional tennis player (or even a tennis instructor). However, this same tennis player may discover a strong ability to make sculptures using metal, and this is the passion which ends up providing good income.

It may take many hours a day to master the art of sculpting using metal, but a strong passion for this art medium aids in becoming very skilled at it. It also helps when hard work is required, whether it's for using a difficult technique or simply for producing a high volume of sculptures whose degree of difficulty is low.

It's not enough to be passionate about something. We need to be passionate about something were good enough to do for good compensation. After all, those bills won't pay themselves.

After she graduated from Sarah Lawrence College in 1971, Vera Wang landed a job at Vogue magazine as an assistant to the fashion director. When she was 23-- about one year after her start date-- she was made fashion editor. Her main responsibility as fashion editor was the editorial fashion spreads for the magazine. Due to the demands of her job as a fashion editor for Vogue magazine, she had little time to pursue her dream of becoming a fashion designer. In 1987 she left Vogue magazine in order to work at Ralph Lauren. While at Ralph Lauren, she designed accessories which would bear the Ralph Lauren brand and label.

Vera Wang was going to be married in 1989, so she would need a wedding dress for herself. Since she was unable to find a wedding dress she could wear, sdhe decided to design her own wedding dress.

In 1990 Vera Wang quit working for Ralph lauren. A short time after quitting, she opened Vera Wang Bridal House in New York, New York, US, where she sold couture bridal gowns. Initially her store offered wedding dresses from other designers. Eventually she began to sell wedding dresses whcih she designed. Her designed proved to be so popular with the buying public that Vera Wang Bridal House sold Vera Wang dresses exclusively. Whithin a few years of opening Vera Wang Bridal House, she expanded her offerings to include dreeses for bridesmaids as well as couture evening gowns. It was during this period that Vera Wang became known for her use of sheer fabric for her designs.
