About the Quote

As much as we want to control the future, much of it is beyond our control. No matter how much control we have over things, we can't control everything. Even if there are things we work to accomplish and to bring to pass in a certain way, others may have something to say about that and throw a monkey wrench into our best-prepared plans.

The best we can do is prepare for as many eventualities as possible and then let the future arrive to become the present. If we know what we're doing, we can adapt to the situation as it evolves early enough to still retain an advantage. If we don't know what we're doing (and there will be times when we won't know what we're doing), then we have to rely on luck, karma, or divine intervention for an outcome we can accept.

Preparation can help us reduce the stress of the unknown which can accompany the future when it becomes the present. Whatever happens after that, we can be at peace in knowing that we did what we had to do.

Some (More) Information about J. K. Rowling

Besides novels published at Layer 1 (the Harry Potter series), there are also novels published at Layer 2 (ancillary novels or spin-offs). Among these Layer 2 novels is Fantastic Beasts & Where to Find Them (2001). This novel would later be made into movies released in 2016 and then 2018. J. K. Rowling herself would write the screenplays for this 2-movie series.

Then there are novels based on literature the characters Harry Potter and characters themselves would read during the course of their studies:

  • 2001 -- Quidditch Through the Ages; and
  • 2008 -- The Tales of Beedle the Bard.

Proceeds from the sales of these "book derivatives" were donated to charity.

One of J. K. Rowling's stories even became the basis for a stage play. _Harry Potter and the Cursed Child debuted on stage in London, England, UK, in 2016. This play was such a success on th London stage that it won an unprecedented 9 Olivier Awards (including Best New Play). That same year a hardcopy version of the script was published and billed as "the 8th" Harry Potter novel. In 2018 this play opened on Broadway in New York, New York, US; to show that it's London success was no fluke, the Broadway edition of this play won 6 Tony Awards (including, also, Best New Play).
