About the Quote

Although no one wants to lose, losing is part of succeeding in life. Over the course of a 7-game series, a team which is losing the series always has a chance to come back to win that series until time runs out. When time runs out, the losses are final. If both teams are evenly matched, then the series is expected to last all 7 games.

On the flip side, a team can lose the series before Game 1 is ever played:

  • The opposing team's best player comes back from injury or suspension. * The other team's most fearsome fighter is looking forward to knocking some heads around.
  • The team itself lost its mental edge.

No one can avoid struggle, but struggle must be endured and even embraced in order to record a final and lasting victory. Rocky Balboa is the embodiment of the quote by Napoleon Hill. Another quote validates Hill's quote: "Nothing is over until we decide it is." If we're going to lose, let it be because we ran out of time and not because we gave up when there was still a chance to pull out the victory.

Some (More) Information about Napoleon Hill

Although the magazine Hill’s Golden Rule appeared to be a dream come true for Napoleon Hill, the venture ended up suffering from bad business relationships. In 1920, Napoleon Hill set forth on a lecture tour around the nation. During this time, partner and printer George Williams took control of the magazine.

Although hewasn't happy with this outcopme, Napoleon Hill simple left Chicago, Illinois, US for New York, New York, US. Thanks to the financial backing he had found relatively quickly, Napoleon Hill's Magazine debuted in April 1921. Soon Napoleon Hill's Magazine did much better than Hill’s Golden Rule, and this success established Napoleon Hill the leading expert in the area of motivation and ethical success.

Due to scandals involving colleagues associated with the new magazine, that success was short-lived. Not wanted to be associated with scandals, advertisers pulled out. Loss of advertising revenue resulted in falling behind in paying the bills. The losses were too much to overcome; as a result, Napoleon Hill's Magazine folded.

Hill left New York for Ohio. There he purchased and then operated a business college which offered courses in advertising, journalism, and publisc speaking. Hill then met Don Mellet, publisher of the Canton Daily News. Mellet persuaded Hill to write a book based on the success principles he had been compiling over the years.
