Winged Wonders: Butterflies in the Garden

(Edited)

I wished I had brought my camera with me.

Since settling into a new house, I have had the chance to really unpack my things and left my camera at my mom’s house. So, I’ve been relying on my phone a lot and while it’s not a high-end one, I am surprised by the quality that it offers. Though it’s not as amazing as something Iphone or S22 would produce, it’s decent enough for regular photography. I am also a bit pushing it here because I am using the 2x zoom to capture these beautiful butterflies.

At the time, I was also assisting my adoptive dad who’s in a wheelchair to get some fresh air. We strolled through the neighborhood and ended up at a small garden with flowers that tempts these butterflies to hover around. The first one on the thumbnail according to google lens is pale grass blue, it’s a small sized butterfly that’s commonly found in South Asia. I am impressed to find them around my garden, their ancestors must have traveled quite far away. My shots show the process where they were about to suck the nectar from the flower. First, it just hops on the flower, then gets ready to eat.

This one is a common jay, it flies around and hardly still. Capturing this one was quite a chore and I was almost frustrated. ‘ How come they can’t stay still?’ and my dad confidently replied that the big one is always running in and about and I should expect the small butterfly to stay still. But who knows? I mean just based on his theory at the time, that pale grass blue was indeed staying still a lot more than the common jay.

The last one that you’re about to see is stripped albatros. This one frequents the flower spots around the garden and I’ve been seeing a few of them flying around in groups.

Among all those, my favorite is definitely the pale grass, it looks as if it knows I was taking a picture and side-eyeing me.

nb : google lens to find the species name of these butterfly

Yeaayy, You're lucky to capture these beauties in one setting Ma'am. It's hard to capture butterflies in my place, they keep on flying from one flower to another.

Your phone cam is great. I love the white butterfly, it's a unique one.😍

talk about being difficult, it was 🤣I got bitten by mosquitoes and then had to follow the butterflies. The key is just continuous shots. My phone isn't that great & I am even surprised of its quality too. Thank you for checking out 😊

This reminded me of my childhood when I always ran behind these creatures.

Btw I really liked that stripped albatros, it is so beautiful. You really did a great effort to capture them.

Well done 👍

The first model has very fine details in focus - paws and antennae. Great job.

haha yeah! I was surprised too. It seems like the butterfly was side-eyeing me for some reason. Thanks for checking out!

The fact that you were able to get shots of them is cool... I hardly get any good shots of butterflies 🫠🫠 I really don't.
Nicely taken though..

What phone are you using? I'm also using a cellphone and not the greatest one either.

I am only using samsung A03s, I got them about 2 years ago and it's time to change. I think you have so stay still and point on the flowers rather than following the butterflies, that was my trick when capturing them. If you stay still and point on the flowers, you might have the chance to shoot awesome pics of them :D have fun trying!

Or try and stay calm while trying 🤣🤣🤣 laughs I also dont have the best Samsung...i think it's the A14 or something...

But it works for me so Im happy as can be...although next phone I buy I'll be pushing some money into! Want a decent phone for a change but when the day comes I'll see if I'm really willing to do that!

I love butterflies so much, but I barely see them around. My favorite is the last one, I find its pattern unique and beautiful.
You did an amazing job capturing these butterflies with your smartphone.

Same here! I barely saw them where I used to live but now at my parents' they are a lot of them. I guess if you plant flowers around your surrounding, it attracts them. Maybe it's time to cultivate rees and flower to see them more often?

Oh really!
Yeah it does. I tried planting some flowers and vegetables on a piece of land not too far from where I live, but it was a fail. Most people let their goats out, and even kids too wouldn't let my plants grown in peace. They destroyed everything.
My house is a two-storeyed building, and the whole floor is tiled so there's no where to plant.
I just have an Aloe vera plant in a bucket
