Luego de varias semanas sin tocar un lápiz para dibujar siquiera algún boceto, volví a hacer retratos ya que una amiga me contrató para que la ayudara haciéndole un retrato para una entrega que tenía que realizar.
Tenía bastante tiempo sin dibujar y sinceramente no tenía mucha confianza para realizar este trabajo, pero como también estoy tratando de reunir dinero para comprar algunas cosas que me hacen falta para mejorar mi PC no podía desaprovechar este ingreso extra que llegaba a mis manos.
Seizing opportunities ✨
After several weeks without touching a pencil to draw even a sketch, I returned to make portraits since a friend hired me to help her by making a portrait for a delivery she had to make.
I had enough time without drawing and honestly I did not have much confidence to do this work, but as I am also trying to raise money to buy some things that I need to improve my PC I could not miss this extra income that came into my hands.
El trabajo era sencillo, realizar un retrato a escala de grises.
La única regla era que tenía que trabajar con alguna impresión o fotografía de revista que también estuviera a escala de grises, así que estuve revisando algunas revistas que tengo en casa hasta encontrar una imagen que me resultara adecuada para retratar.
The job was simple, to make a portrait in grayscale.
The only rule was that I had to work with some print or magazine photograph that was also grayscale, so I was reviewing some magazines that I have at home until I found an image that was suitable for me to portray.
Proceso de dibujo
El proceso de dibujo es bastante sencillo, luego de encontrar la revista recorté el área que necesitaba porque me dieron unas medidas establecidas así que tenía que cortar la imagen a ese tamaño luego escalar ese rectángulo a una hoja tipo tabloide.
Drawing process
The drawing process is quite simple, after finding the magazine I cut the area I needed because they gave me some established measurements so I had to cut the image to that size then scale that rectangle to a tabloid sheet.
Ya con mi material de trabajo lo único que necesité fue un lápiz básico mongol, los mas normales que uno utiliza para escribir usualmente y uno del 8B bastante oscuro que utilizaría para sombras, cabello y poder así generar mucho mas contraste.
También pasé el dibujo a mi PC para retocar un poco las luces y sombras con Photoshop. De esta manera tenía 2 imágenes, una con mas y otra con menos contraste, y con ellas fui haciendo una combinación de ambas.
Already with my work material the only thing I needed was a basic Mongolian pencil, the most normal ones that one uses to write usually and one of the 8B quite dark that I would use for shadows, hair and thus be able to generate much more contrast.
I also passed the drawing to my PC to retouch the lights and shadows a little with Photoshop. In this way I had 2 images, one with more and one with less contrast, and with them I was making a combination of both.
Comencé obviamente haciendo el canon, con líneas claras pero firmes, teniendo muy claro donde colocaría las sombras.
La imagen que seleccione no estaba muy compleja y tampoco tenía tantos detalles así que fue bastante sencillo encajar todo. Poco a poco fui haciendo los detalles con el lápiz mongol y sombreando con el 8B de una forma general y bastante simple, nada muy fuerte y contrastante.
I started obviously doing the canon, with clear but firm lines, having very clear where I would place the shadows.
The image I selected was not very complex and did not have so many details so it was quite easy to fit everything together. Little by little I was doing the details with the Mongolian pencil and shading with the 8B in a general and quite simple way, nothing very strong and contrasting.
Ya luego si comencé progresivamente a añadir mas capas de gris para ir haciendo sombras más pronunciadas y poder generar el volumen necesario para darle realismo al retrato.
Por último con el mismo 8B fui oscureciendo bastante las zonas mas negras del retrato, y generando luces y sombras mas marcadas. Utilicé un poco de algodón para suavizar completamente las sombras, ya que probé a degradar usando mi dedo pero la textura del papel hacia que se viera desprolijo así que opté por usar un poco de algodón.
And then I began progressively to add more layers of gray to make more pronounced shadows and be able to generate the necessary volume to give realism to the portrait.
Finally with the same 8B I was darkening the blackest areas of the portrait, and generating more marked lights and shadows. I used some cotton to completely soften the shadows, as I tried degrading using my finger but the texture of the paper made it look messy so I opted to use some cotton.
Al final si me hizo falta un poco de detalle así que le saque bastante punta al mongol y fui delineando todo el dibujo para darle los toques que hicieran resaltar mucho mas la figura del fondo, incluso con un borrador muy pequeño fui resaltando altas luces.
Fueron 3 horas de estar dibujando seguido para terminar este retrato y me sentí muy bien cuando lo pude terminar ya que como comenté al inicio no tenía mucha confianza para dibujar.
Lo más difícil fue comenzar, todo lo demás fue saliendo poco a poco hasta culminar esta obra de arte jajajaja.
In the end if I needed a little detail so I took a lot of tip to the Mongolian and I was outlining the whole drawing to give it the touches that made the figure of the background stand out much more, even with a very small draft I was highlighting high lights.
It was 3 hours of drawing often to finish this portrait and I felt very good when I could finish it since as I said at the beginning I did not have much confidence to draw.
The most difficult thing was to start, everything else was coming out little by little until this work of art was completed lol.
¿Que cámara utilicé?
Como comenté anteriormente utilicé mi teléfono celular, un Huawei y6 2019 con una cámara de 13 megapíxeles de resolución, utilicé el modo manual para configurar mejor los parámetros de ISO, exposición, balance de blancos y velocidad de obturación para cada fotografía.

As I mentioned earlier I used my cell phone, a Huawei Y6 2019 with a 13 megapixel resolution camera, I used manual mode to better configure ISO parameters, exposure, white balance and shutter speed for each photograph.
