Nature Ravagers!
While taking a walk yesterday, I passed by a palm plantation and something caught my attention.
Noise! Not normal noise, but a rustling, chattering sound coming from the tops of the palm trees.
I looked up and there they were - bats, hanging - rather clustering on each of the palm trees like it was their home. By my calculation, they were about 100 or so.
I stood there, watching them have a field day on the palm trees. Then, decided to capture the scene on camera.
Some of the palm fronds were already bent down, broken, and drying. Others looked pruned already, yet the bats still found their way to the fresh, growing ones to roost.
This isn’t new. Bats are known to take over palm plantations. They basically make palms their estate. And when they cluster like this, they end up causing real harm to the plantation. Their weight damages the fonds, they feed on young fruits/nuts, and their droppings burn the leaves.
Not only that. They more or less become a menace to the environment, causing noise pollution and a threat to human life.
Come to think of it; bats are part of the ecosystem. It's even meat for some people, yet they ravage the ecosystem. Honestly, nature has some explaining to do. Lol.
And that's a wrap. Have you seen bats invading palm plantations around your area too?

This sounds strange to me; hitherto, I thought bats are nocturnal creatures. So, how do you capture the scene in daytime ⁉️ You have given me a topic for research and I'm going to do just that. Maybe I'm not well-informed about this one 😲
They're indeed nocturnal animals but they also feed in the day.

Bats can be very annoying liitle things just like tou explained. Once they set their sights on a favourable place to roost, then it's theirs.
Exactly, farmers should just pray they don't notice their plantation at all because these ones are tenants wey pass landlord. 😂

I think the people around you do not actually chase them away. They're always many whatever feels safe for them, and they usually have a lot of offspring. So they can occupy a lot of areas quickly
I think they do chase them away but they still find their way back again after some time.
Honestly, they're nothing but nuisances and should go extinct.
