Time And Situations Changed My Taste - WK 312

I grew up in a family where savory/spicy foods were a thing. Soups, stew, yam porridge, fries, scrambled eggs, name it. My dad loved spicy food, and still does. The pepper had to be there.

Salt was another thing in our house. My dad's food had to have extra salt. He had a special bottle as a salt container. And when it broke, he replaced it with a stainless one.

Then there was the sweet side too. As a kid, I could eat anything sweet. Chocolates, cakes, icing straight off the cake, mineral drinks (soda), fruity breads, sweet sauce, name it. Sweetness was joy.

I thought that would be me forever, not until I left home.

I lived with friends who were pepper-intolerant. The pepper just has to be moderate in the food, not the type that someone's tongue. Lol. Slowly, my taste began to change. The one that broke the camel's back was when I went to spend the holidays with a priest friend. Due to health reasons, he only ate bland meals - minimal or no pepper and salt.

Never did I imagine that one day I'd eat such meals. But I did, all through my stay.

I actually had the option of eating my kind of meal, but I chose not to. Didn't want to be a bother since everyone ate from the same pot. Moreover, I needed to show some empathy, since he didn't choose to live that way. Even at that, I wasn't staying forever, so why not learn another way to eat, another way to live?

And I did learn because from then on, my body started talking back. My taste buds started going bonkers. Lol..

First, it was sweet food. The cakes I loved as a child, my favourite Miranda drink, fruity bread all began to taste like poison. The moment I take them, I’m spitting. My stomach just rejects them.

And when I was diagnosed with an ulcer some years ago, everything changed entirely. Spicy, savory, too sweet foods were completely ruled out. I can't handle them anymore. Not even my beloved peppered pomo, goat meat and peppersoup. None.

Although my taste bud has changed, home food hasn't. Still spicy. Still savory. The salt is still there. Whenever I visit, I manage to eat it... Then mom's antacids come to the rescue.

Thank you for reading.

Eating a not so salty foods is boring and though we're grateful with the food, but if its too bland, you'll eat just a little coz of it. I like spicy food but I avoid them now. But i ate it from time to time. Savory foods can really make u eat more no?

I'm a light eater, maybe that's why I could adjust to eating all those meals.

Good post about food habits. By the way, I forgot to put salt to the chicken, and was tasteless.

Thank you.

I doubt if it's as tasteless as you wrote. 😂 Chickens are naturally tasty, since they contain fats and oil. So enjoy it. Better still, send it across. 😅

Realmente toda esa comida se ve deliciosa y la manera como lo hacen es admirable qué bueno.
The truth is, all that food looks delicious, and the way they prepare it is admirable—how wonderful.

Claim: As we grow time and environments might change what we loved to eat before

quote — The writer mentioned what they enjoyed as a family while growing up, her father loves when his food has good quantity of pepper and too much salt, they enjoyed different types of food.

quote — She thought it was going to continue same way untill she meet with friends who don't enjoy it when food is too spicy so she has to adjust but she can't forget what home looks like while growing

Why it matters: Change is constant and this can affect every aspect of our lives including the type of meals we love to enjoy while growing up in our family, we have to be flexible to cope with any situation that comes up as we grow up and start living on our own as an adult, the writer still loves what the family enjoyed but she has adapted to what her current friends love to enjoy.

I still do love peppery food. I was actually raised in a home where we never ate peppery stuff, but I grew up to actually love it. I lived with an aunt after I left home at 20, and I still love eating peppery stuff

I understand. It's usually tough for one to change their food preferences, especially if they're used to them. Moreover, you're in Lasgidi, where they eat pepper instead of food. 😂

I can relate. I had similar experience when I left home to stay with one of my cousins whose house was closer to my place of work. He cooks with little or no pepper. At first I never thought I could cope but I did as time went by.

One's taste bud could change with situations or change of environment.

Thanks to your mom for her remedy to the ulcer. Ulcer na bad thing.
