There's a certain kind of magic in transforming viral internet moments into characters through art. Hello! I'm Lorentm, a passionate digital artist who finds joy in reimagining the charming, quirky, and sometimes hilarious content we find on TikTok. Today, I’m thrilled to share a new addition to my collection of anime-style fan art: a baby cat caught in a moment of high alert — and maximum cuteness.

With oversized, glimmering eyes full of curiosity and a puffed-up fur coat that screams “tiny warrior,” this kitten is captured mid-reaction, likely after spotting a fellow feline rival. Its stance is arched, paws slightly spread, as if ready to defend its territory — or simply confused by its reflection. The combination of its exaggerated fluff and those soft, expressive eyes gave me the perfect excuse to mix the dramatic flair of anime with the pure innocence of a baby animal. Creating this piece was a delightful experience, filled with laughter and admiration for how animals can express so much with just a look.

This character is inspired by one of those viral TikTok clips where a tiny kitten suddenly puffs up after seeing something unexpected — usually another cat. The sudden transformation from calm baby to fierce furball is not only hilarious but irresistibly cute. In this fan art, I imagined the kitten as an anime character, complete with oversized eyes and stylized fur spikes that emphasize its startled mood. It’s not just a baby cat — it’s a dramatic protagonist in the story of a great feline rivalry (at least in its mind).

Este personaje está inspirado en uno de esos clips virales de TikTok donde un gatito pasa de estar tranquilo a convertirse en una bolita de pelos erizados tras ver algo inesperado, generalmente otro gato. Esa transformación repentina de bebé tranquilo a bola de pelos enojada es tan graciosa como adorable. En este fan art, imaginé al gatito como un personaje de anime, con ojos enormes y mechones estilizados que realzan su estado de alerta. No es solo un gatito… ¡es una protagonista dramática en la historia de una gran rivalidad felina! (aunque sea solo en su imaginación).

Process / Proceso

Every drawing begins with a sketch, and for this piece, I started with loose lines that captured the kitten's defensive posture. I focused on the arched back and fluffed-up tail — key elements that instantly tell the story. Even at this early stage, I felt a burst of energy, almost hearing the soft “hiss” of the character as it prepares for an imaginary showdown.

Todo dibujo comienza con un boceto, y para esta ilustración empecé con líneas sueltas que capturaran la postura defensiva del gatito. Me concentré en la curvatura de su espalda y la cola esponjada, elementos clave que cuentan la historia de inmediato. Incluso en esta etapa inicial, sentí una oleada de energía, casi podía escuchar el suave “¡fff!” del personaje mientras se prepara para un enfrentamiento imaginario.

Once I had the structure, I moved on to the lineart. I used clean, dynamic strokes to give the fur a sense of motion and volume. Drawing the fur was both fun and challenging — I wanted every spike to feel intentional and animated, giving that electric tension only startled kittens can convey.

Una vez tuve la estructura base, pasé al delineado. Utilicé trazos limpios y dinámicos para darle al pelaje una sensación de movimiento y volumen. Dibujar el pelaje fue tan divertido como desafiante — quería que cada mechón erizado se sintiera intencionado y con vida propia, transmitiendo esa tensión eléctrica que solo los gatitos asustados pueden lograr.

Coloring brought the kitten to life. I chose a deep chocolate brown as the main tone, with subtle orange highlights near the edges to create warmth and contrast. The eyes were especially important — big, glossy, and full of light, they had to express both fear and sweetness.

El coloreado fue lo que dio vida al gatito. Elegí un marrón chocolate profundo como tono principal, con sutiles toques naranjas en los bordes para crear calidez y contraste. Los ojos fueron especialmente importantes: grandes, brillantes y llenos de luz, debían transmitir tanto miedo como ternura.

Adding shadows helped define the kitten’s round form and emphasize the dramatic curve of its back. I softened the shadows near the legs and belly to preserve its youthful softness while enhancing depth.

Agregar sombras me ayudó a definir la forma redonda del gatito y resaltar la curvatura dramática de su espalda. Suavicé las sombras en las patas y el vientre para conservar esa suavidad propia de una cría, mientras aumentaba la sensación de volumen.

Then came the highlights — especially in the fur and eyes — to give the illustration a slightly glossy, animated look. The fine touches of light made the fur shimmer just enough to capture that heightened moment of alertness.

Finally, I added a soft yellow background that complements the character without distracting from it. The light color palette helps draw attention to the kitten’s dark fur and playful expression, while the gentle folds under its paws suggest a soft bed or cozy surface.

Working on this piece was a joyful escape. I laughed more than once while adjusting the fur spikes and perfecting that surprised expression. There’s something incredibly rewarding about turning a fleeting internet moment into a lasting piece of art. I hope this little cat made you smile as much as it did for me.
