29th Birthday weekend experience

Hello everyone I hope you all had a lovely weekend I know I did. For it was my birthday on the 28th of August. Today I will be telling you about how I did what I'm calling my Birthday Rush. The birthday rush is when you go and do as many of the free things you can do on your birthday as possible on the day. Over here in Cape town there are six things you can do for free on your birthday that you normally have to pay quite a high amount to normally do. The 6 things are entrance into the Two Oceans Aquarium, entrance to the Museum Of Contemporary Art Africa, 1 return ticket for Table Mountain cable car ride, 1 hour bicycle rental to enjoy a ride around Cape towns/ V&A Waterfront and sea point, a ticket to go on the Cape wheel, and last but not least one free slice of cake from mugg n bean. This information is something I found when doing a Google search on free things to do in Cape town on your birthday. I could only get through 4 of the 6 things because the cape wheel is currently being dismantled and moved to a new location and the bicycle ride I could not take full advantage of due to time constraints this time round but hopefully next year I'll be able to do all 6.

So let's start with Saturday some of my friends and family were unable to come on my actual birthday on Sunday so we decided to hold a nice get together and braai at my house. We only started the braai at round about 3:00 because me and one of my closest friend Cameron for 20 years were going to do our birthday tradition. Every year on each other's birthdays we always go to spur and have one plate of chips, one plate of onion rings and a milkshake each which the one whose birthday it isn't will pay for and then just talk for about an hour or two about various things. But unfortunately this year my friend couldn't make it for our outing cuz he came down with major tooth pain that you have to go to the dentist for so we are planning on doing it maybe this coming weekend or a bit later on. So then in the morning instead since we had already made the plans with everybody for the 3:00 braai me and one of my other friends went down to our local pub to play a game of pool and had a double brandy and coke special. We were there for about 2 hours just playing and talking with some of the other patrons. When we got back to my place we then started marinating the meat and starting the fire then slowly but Shirley throughout the next half an hour or the guests had arrived. There was supposed to be 8 of us which included me, my mother, my niece, my nephew, my auntie my biological mother and my two close friends Dehan and Cameron but as I said before unfortunately Cameron was unable to make it. So the we all enjoyed a lovely braai and chatted the rest of the day away.

Now let's move on to the Sunday where I did my first attempt at what I call the birthday Rush. The first thing we did is go to my grandfather's house to go and visit him on my birthday where he gave me an envelope with some birthday money because of his age he is quite tired and wakes up late so we could only go to him at 9:30 in the morning which is what caused the time constraint I spoke about earlier. We spent 1 hour there just having a nice chat. And then we left at 10:30 for me to go catch my first my Citi bus up to town. Once I have finally reached the v&a waterfront I headed straight to the two oceans aquarium.

There I saw a lot of lovely creatures of the sea and all sorts of other interesting things I spent about 45 minutes at the aquarium. Here are few photos that took their you know they say a picture is worth a thousand words.

And then I went on to my next step of the journey which was walking from the aquarium to the next location which is the Zeitz M.O.C.A.A. DC museums art was very unique and interesting and very hard to understand some of the things I cannot say should be in that museum or should be in any museum but to each their own. It was definitely a experience I don't regret having but doubt I will actually pay to go in there again. Some of the art is actually a bit inappropriate and extremely weird. This museum is 6 floors high but not very large so it took me about 1 hour to get through the whole place. But here are some photos I took of the least odd of the art but still odd nonetheless.

Now for my favourite part personally going for the cable car ride up table mountain and spending some time up there just admiring the wonderful views and great air. Going to the mountain took longer than expected due to the bus schedules and a few problems I found out only when I reached the bottom of the hill that took you to the cable car. Normally there is a shuttle that takes you from the bottom of the steep hill to the bottom cable car station but when I reach there I found a nice note saying that this is no longer in service.

So hiking I went. I'm not the fittest of people so this was a bit of a truck for me but I made it and I'm happy I did. So while I was at the top of the mountain I went hiking around and talking to all sorts of people and even helped some of them with taking photos of their whole group. I spent about an hour up on top of the mountain just enjoying the lovely views. And here are some of the pictures I took while up there.

Once I was all done at the top of table mountain I went back to the cable cars and headed back down to the lower cable car station. I was having such a nice time up there then when I got to the bottom I realised that I have to walk all the way back down the hill luckily walking down is a lot easier than walking up and I managed to find a shortcut I took a video of myself going down this steep hill which I will put the video on this post when I figure out how to so you can see it. And when I showed this video to my mother she messaged me asking if I was crazy because I wasn't expecting to have to hike or do any of those types of things I was wearing the wrong footwear for this type of terrain and almost slipped once or twice. But I did make it down there without falling on my ass LOL. 😅

And for my last stop on my birthday rush I decided to reward myself with a nice slice of cake and a cappuccino at the Mugg and bean in century city so I got on the myciti bus and went there. It was already quite late at this time and I was hoping to sit down at the restaurant and have my treat but time got away from me on this journey. The main reason I chose to go to century city for the Mugg and bean instead of just getting in town was because my mother need to go to the Edgars in century city to pay some accounts so we plan to meet there at the end of my trip. So I ended up getting takeaways the cake I chose was a very delicious and rich red velvet cheesecake.

{ Just for the people who would like to know on any other day this outing would've cost over R800 ($50) and it only costed me just over R60 ($3.5) }

And that is the end of my story I hope you enjoyed it and I wish you all a lovely week further.

What a nice way of celebrating one's birthday. I prefer this to the long hours of watching people dance and walk around with baked faces.
By the way, belated happy birthday 🎂

oh no why. sorry to hear about that. well I hope one day u will be able to face that fear. and to be honest the cable car ride would be the best second step the first step getting to to the bottom station.

It sounds like you had quite the adventure! I had no idea you could do all that for free on your birthday. I would definitely love to visit the aquarium and maybe do the cable car ride. Not too sure about the museum if I am honest.
And a very happy belated birthday!!

Always be willing to try everything at least once before you make up your mind about it! But if I am in Cape Town during my birthday, I know which of the activities I would like to try first! 😁
