How to cook Venezuelan Shredded Chicken. Step by step [ENG/ESP]

Today I want to show you how to make this easy and delicious Venezuelan-style shredded chicken recipe that can get us out of trouble.

Its versatility makes it compatible with breakfasts, lunches and dinners, since it serves as a base to prepare multiple dishes. In my country we use it mainly as a filling for arepas and empanadas, but it can also be used to prepare sandwiches, lasagna, cannelloni, cakes or simply with rice or pasta as a side dish.

In addition, if we prepare it in advance, we can keep it refrigerated for several days, which makes it ideal for those moments when we do not have enough time to spend long and hard in the kitchen.

Hoy quiero enseñarles cómo hacer esta fácil y deliciosa receta de pollo desmechado al estilo venezolano que puede sacarnos de apuros.

Su versatilidad hace que sea compatible con desayunos, almuerzos y cenas, ya que nos sirve como base para preparar múltiples platos. En mi país la usamos principalmente como relleno de arepas y empanadas, pero también nos sirve para preparar sándwiches, lasañas, canelones, pasteles o simplemente con arroz o pasta como acompañante.

Además, si la preparamos con antelación, podemos mantenerla refrigerada durante varios días, lo cual la hace ideal para aquellos momentos donde no contamos con el tiempo suficiente para dedicarnos largo y tendido a la cocina.

Boil water in a pot and add a little salt. Add the chicken and let it cook.

En una olla ponemos a hervir agua y añadimos un poco de sal. Agregamos el pollo y dejamos cocinar.

While the chicken is cooking, cut all the vegetables in brunoise and set aside.

Mientras se cocina nuestro pollo, cortamos todos los vegetales en brunoise y reservamos.

Once the chicken is ready, remove it from the water and reserve some broth.

Una vez listo el pollo, lo retiramos del agua y reservamos un poco de caldo.

With the help of two forks, finely shred the chicken and set aside.

Con la ayuda de dos tenedores desmechamos finamente el pollo y reservamos.

In a frying pan over medium heat, add oil until hot. Add all the vegetables previously cut in brunoise and cook for a few minutes.

En una sartén a fuego medio, agregamos aceite hasta calentar. Incorporamos todos los vegetales previamente cortados en brunoise y dejamos cocinar unos minutos.

Add the shredded chicken, the chicken flavor bouillon cube, cumin, turmeric, pepper, salt and mix.

Agregamos el pollo desmechado, el cubito de caldo sabor a pollo, el comino, la cúrcuma, la pimienta, la sal y mezclamos.

Add a little of the broth that we had previously reserved and let it cook at low temperature until the flavors are integrated and the liquid has been absorbed.

Añadimos un poco del caldo que habíamos reservado previamente y dejamos cocinar a temperatura baja hasta que los sabores se integren y el líquido se haya absorbido.

Remove from the heat and our delicious shredded chicken is ready.
