WIP - Hercules and Nessus

I'm sharing with you an update on a work in progress, that has been, well, in progress for a very loooong time.

Why taking so long? I've been struggling with the figure composition, because I have no direct reference and I've worked from several sources. I've had to patch things together.

While that has it's own challenges, figuring out the muscle masses takes it to another level.

I had toyed with the idea of modelling the scene in 3D with Blender, which would give me a good deal of what I need, the 2D figure models do not accurately portray muscle contraction and elongation. Secondly, I was adverse to the time taken for the learning curve to do this. This is amusing because of the time I've let this particular painting sit idle while I avoided it.

I believe I have recently figured out some solutions for this painting and will engage again with it, once the current painting project is finished. The current painting project is also patched together from several references and I'm rather pleased with the results, so, overall, I think I am gaining confidence and experience in composing figures without a direct reference.

It will take time, and I'm not giving up.

Wonderful, That’s what I was talking about, you’re very good with colors. It looks like I’m seeing a Goya in process.

Thank you. Yes, something like Goya. Working with a limited palette gives you greater control over your colours.
