Skull - Graphite Pencil Study

Here's another drawing study I did for my online art student. Again the focus is on building up the image through successive layering of values. It is a matter of rinse and repeat to nail this. There is no short cut to learning it.

Practice, Practice, Practice

or,

Practice Patience Perseverance.

From some of the text I have to wonder if and/or how many times you've been asked about what's your secret or having everything ascribed to your natural talent? :)

The text hints at the rant that beat my students senseless with. 😀

Almost without exception, people come to me expecting to nail everything in one short workshop. "How hard can it be?"

Also for myself, I really didn't start to get anywhere until I conscientiously applied my focus intentional practice.

Take short cuts, it will take for ever or never to reach your artist goals. Apply yourself and lose yourself in the journey, you'll make progress sooner than you think.

Here is one of my sources on the topic.

"How hard can it be?"

Ahh those poor ignorant souls, guess it didn't take long to realise the error of their ways XD

No, often they give up.

To date I've only had one student who really nailed it. His progress is impressive. But he already had done a bit of work before I met him. But I gave him push in the right direction. He appears to be capable of self-learning. This is essential to finally make the transition from student to a level of mastery.

I have another who has the potential, to make the progress like the previous, but has other priorities to attend to currently.

Yet another, is very keen, but seems to do many workshops and not get far.

The others packed it in.
