Producing VS Promoting

Having finished the previous drawing, it was time to strike while the iron was hot and lose no time in starting the oil painting of this image. I'm working to keep my productivity up and see if I can get my production time down further.

That also means cutting out the distractions. Keeping up with the social media posts seems to be problematic because it takes time out from creating.

Going anywhere near social media apps is dangerous because there are so many distractions.

How do you deal with the balancing act of producing versus promoting?

I do not.

Like right now I'm only commenting because it's an easier one to answer, I've been blind upvoting (which I hate doing, I like leaving comments!) because otherwise I wouldn't interact with my feed at all because sometimes things are insanely busy.

As much as I hate that you also have this problem I'm also kind of glad that you also have this problem as if even professional level artists are feeling it, it means that it might actually be a problem at least for some people and it's not just that I'm incompetent XD

I look at some of the larger accounts on social media and wonder at the endless stream of posts, and yet a seemingly high level of engagement. I know they don't respond to each every comment, but certainly enough to keep a buzz going.

Maybe if they're earning enough to live off they can afford to spend a few hours?

Or maybe they have help as apparently some larger accounts have teams.

Yes definitely teams. It's a tough job to make it to that "size" where you can afford a support team.

Elon Musk appears to spend in inordinate amount of time on Twitter, yet is busy with all of his other projects. It seems his personal relationships take a back seat. But perhaps that's how such people manage to get so much done.

Yeh if you want the time to do a thing it has to be taken from something else. It's sleep in my case, so I need to find something else to axe instead x_x

Robbing myself of decent an regular sleep impacts my productivity, so I am more disciplined these days because I want better concentrated productivity rather longer drawn out sub-optimal productivity.

Especially with the programming. Late at night, I might isolate the problem / bug, but if I sleep on it, wake up fresh, it is done in little time.

It's amazing what a clear head can do. 😀

My other problem on that front is that I just work a lot better at night so when I'm supposed to be going to bed is when I'm at peak production so obviously I want to maximise this rather than attempting to wind down (which is actually hard).

I was operating more or less on my own schedule when doing my degree at uni as all classes and everything I did was on in the evenings so I could work til 3am, sleep til lunchtime, go to class/evening activities/parties/whatever, rinse, repeat and it was glorious. I can't do that now as it's too inconvenient for the things I'm doing at the moment -_-

Clear heads are great XD
