Introducing Decentralized Reddit on Hive | The Communities Vision on Leo's Everything App

Our vision for the LeoVerse has expanded and changed quite dramatically over the past 12-18 months. We've seen a full-scale change in what is possible for us and where we are headed.

Elon taking over Twitter showed us that we were knocking on the right door. We were talking about Project Blank over 2 years ago!

The idea of Project Blank was initially to launch Microblogging on Hive. Then we realized that the LeoVerse encompassed so much more than just microblogging... We have the insane potential to build something much, much grander than that.

The Everything App. An all encompassing application on the Hive blockchain that focuses on:

  • Microblogging (Twitter)
  • Long-Form Articles (Medium)
  • Communities (Reddit)
  • Decentralized Voting (Nowhere)
  • Payments (Venmo, Zelle)
  • Subscriptions (Substack)

Many of these features are ALREADY Live.

If we had given you this list of features 12 months ago and said that in a year, these would be available on LeoFinance.io, would you have believed us?

Probably not.

Against all odds, we have delivered. And we are continuing to deliver as we scale up, improve and add features to the existing application while also building the next generation of features.

Today, we'll focus on our vision for Communities.

Introducing Decentralized Reddit on Hive | The Communities Vision on Leo's Everything App

Our vision for Communities is to offer - what is now a really popular conversation thanks to the recent Reddit API bans - a decentralized Reddit alternative.

Reddit has become a super popular place for various levels of discussions around all sorts of topics.

The fundamental premise is that anyone can create a Subreddit. A Subreddit can then have moderators and then also build out a base of content that can be muted or re-arranged as the moderators see fit.

Hive had this vision and launched the base-layer protocol for Communities but no UI has stepped up to really carry the Communities protocol to the finish line.

In our opinion, the Communities tech stack is ripe for a makeover on the frontend.

If we can make a truly beautiful and intuitive frontend for communities, I believe we can completely change the game for this Reddit alternative built directly on Hive.

We've just released an initial version of Communities. This is pretty bare bones at the moment, so bear with it as we continue to build out the feature stack.

Right now, you can view Communities by hitting the menu on the left "Communities".

This will take you to the homepage for Communities where you can search for a Community or scroll by the most popular.

Favorited Communities that you're a part of, communities of people you've engaged heavily with, community leaderboard battles and more are all on the way.

Community Leaderboard Battles and Threads on Communities

Two major things here. We ran a massive marketing campaign where we gave away $10,000 USD to Hive community members who participated in a wide arrange of challenges to help us promote and grow the all new https://leofinance.io UI.

This Zealy campaign showed us that we have a lot of untapped potential in gamifying the LeoFinance.io UI experience.

We're building an innovative new Leaderboard page that will encompass gamification directly on Hive through LEO's UI.

To relate this to communities, there will be weekly Community Battles. We'll pit Communities up against one another to see who can:

  1. Engage more
  2. Distribute more upvotes
  3. Deploy the most data
  4. Generate the most external link clicks
  5. Generate the most views
    ... and more!

This will be a Weekly Battle between Communities. The Community that wins each week will gain a MASSIVE prize pool. EVERY SINGLE WEEK.

Gamification is inbound, frens.

Also related to this is Threads on Communities.

We've been asked wen other UIs and Communities will gain access to Threads. All of the data lives on Hive, of course, but to leverage our UI and build with us, Communities will be able to build out Threads on their own pages.

What does this mean exactly?

Right now Communities only have long-form posts.

In the next major update, Communities will get their own Threads feeds. It will be connected to all the other Threads feeds, but on the Community Page, the moderators of that community can moderate their own feed, share it with their users, etc.

Active Hive Communities who want to work with us on this can reach out to @leogrowth on Discord and sign up for early access - if you sign up, a big LEO POWER delegation might just be waiting for you and your community on the other side.

The Vision

We are thrilled to deliver this. As we said Communities are currently just showing Long-Form Posts but soon, they'll have all of the above features and more.

Reddit users will be happy to jump into Communities and realize that they have all of the things they had on Reddit + the benefits of Web3 thanks to Hive's immutable accounts, zero fee transfers and fast & scalable blockchain database.

See you lions on the moon.

A lot of OGs love long-form content. However, not everyone feels they can write, or want to. Micro-blogging is something everyone is already doing every day. Incorporating additional elements goes that extra mile to "widen the net". When you give everyone what they want, you win. Exclusivity to a particular niche can still exist within a broader ecosystem (Everything App)... and that's the real "shock" to the status quo that many are still to grasp... It's looking good!

My previous @v4vapp proposal has expired. I have a new one which is running but unfunded right now. I'm still running @v4vapp and all my other services.

I've just updated v4v.app and I'm getting ready for some exciting new features after the next hard fork.

Please consider asking your friends to vote for prop #265 or consider unvoting the return vote.

For understandable reasons in the current crypto climate it is harder to get funded by the DHF, I accept this so I'm asking a wider audience for help again. I will also redraft this proposal with more details (coming soon). I'm also looking for other funding sources.

Additionally you can also help with a vote for Brianoflondon's Witness using KeyChain or HiveSigner

If you have used v4v.app I'd really like to hear your feedback, and if you haven't I'd be happy to hear why or whether there are other things you want it to do.

Leofinance has a chance of being the decentralized hub of the web3 and crypto space. The challenge and responsibility of all participating in the community is to expand and get the word out of what is being built here!
