Gamifying the Hive Experience With LeoFinance

We've begun a new schedule for releasing updates to LeoFinance. Every Friday, we release the latest build for LeoFinance Alpha (https://alpha.leofinance.io).

If you've been following along, you'll have seen the amazing progress we've made on the UI each week as we get closer and closer to the official Production merge date on May 1st.

Today, a new update was pushed and it's a fun one. Along with a number of infrastructure improvements, we've also pushed the first step in a long line of gamification features on LeoFinance and we've released the first iteration of our LeoAds platform.

In this post, we'll dive into the updates and share the latest.

Gamification on LeoFinance

Gamification is extremely important in Web3. As we work on building "The Everything App" on Hive, we need to focus on creating a Web3 experience that is unique, engaging and intuitive.

If you hover over a username, you can now see some stats on that user.

Keep in mind that this is just V1 of what we intend to do with this feature. Right now, you can see how much LEO POWER and liquid LEO that user has.

Based on the LEO POWER that the user has, they're given a Role in the LeoFinance community.

For example, Jon Snow has 386.975 LEO POWER (Staked LEO) and this makes him a Newborn Cub.

Khal has 144,294 LEO POWER (Staked LEO) and this makes him a Leader of the Pack.

note: we're going to push a fix soon for LEO Delegated. As you can see, Khal has over 700k LEO POWER but since most of it is delegated, it's not calculating his role correctly.

The top tier (currently) is Apex Lion for anyone with 150k+ staked LEO.

The available roles are as follows (note that they also correspond identically with roles on Leo Discord):

• Newborn Cub: 2k+ LEO POWER
• Cub: 5k+ LEO POWER
• Lion: 15k+ LEO POWER
• Leader of the Pack: 50k+ LEO POWER
• Apex Lion: 150k+ LEO POWER

LeoAds Platform is Live!

It's no secret that one of the most anticipated updates for the LeoVerse is the introduction (or rather, Re-introduction) of the ads program.

In the past, the ads program has bought and burned LEO using ad revenue from ads displayed on the UI.

The new ads program changes a large number of things. It's a complete overhaul to how ads used to work.

1. Ads are displayed natively - instead of ads showing as just banners everywhere, we pulled inspiration from platforms like Facebook, Twitter, Google, etc. so that ads actually display as if they are real content. They have an indicator to show that they are "Promoted". You can see this in the image above where the Coinzilla ad shows as if it is a Thread posted by Coinzilla
2. Ad revenue no longer burns LEO - instead of burning LEO, ad partners send BTC (or their preferred crypto) to the LeoAds smart contract. This contract autonomously buys LEO from one of the liquidity pools (bLEO, pLEO, wLEO) and then it unwraps it to native LEO. From there, native LEO is deployed to the LEO POWER pool. If you hold LEO POWER and actively vote with it, then you earn from this new rewards pool which is made up entirely of ad revenue-purchased LEO tokens
3. More ad partners - with our new decentralized model for LeoAds, anyone can now become an ad partner. We're still working on the UI for this but in the sooniverse, you will be able to visit a page on the UI where you can launch your own ad, choose a budget, design an ad image / video and then send HBD, HIVE, LEO or other crypto to the LeoAds smart contract and become an ad partner. The platform will also leverage the new LeoPolls protocol so that LEO POWER holders can approve or disprove ads with decentralized Hive Poll voting

There's so much to unpack with the new ads program. What you see on the UI right now is the most primitive version of LeoAds.

We're working on a fix for the ads algorithm as right now it's just showing the ad in the top slot on the Threads UI. Soon, the ad will show mixed in with other content (as intended).

Next steps for the ad program will be launching the LEO POWER pool contract + adding more ad partners and optimizing ad locations. After that, future updates will include the page on the UI to launch your own ads. Then, decentralized poll voting to approve ads will come later.

Hive-Engine Tokens Added to the Wallet UI

Last week, we released the new wallet UI. You all have been giving us amazing feedback on the UI and we're glad you love the new design!

We've begun adding more features into the wallet UI as we keep progressing toward the May 1st production merge.

Today, we included a Hive Engine token update so you can view other HE token balances.

Our next update to the wallet UI will sync HIVE wallet features. Right now, you can view your Hive / HBD wallet but you can't interact with it. The next update to the wallet UI will enable HIVE wallet actions.

Teasers and What's Next

Also in this update were a number of infrastructure improvements (as always). A lot of the development on the UI is stuff you can't see. Things that are happening in the background to scale LeoFinance and get us ready for a mass of new users.

LeoInfra has been getting a lot of additions as we gear up to launch the newest version of Hive Lite Account Onboarding.
