I want to start by avoiding any misunderstanding. I liked and still like Solo Leveling. I finished watching it a few months ago and am waiting for the next season, which is supposed to come out next year.
Quiero empezar evitando todo tipo de malentendido. A mí me gustó y me gusta Solo Leveling. Hace pocos meses terminé de verla y ando esperando la próxima temporada. Que supuestamente saldría el año que viene.
The thing is, there's something that bothers me quite a bit. Something that, if they had avoided, I would like the series even more.

Solo Leveling is a spectacular series for several reasons. Mainly, because of its high dose of action. Its fights and battles are very well put together and animated. It's a real pleasure to watch these kinds of scenes.

To get to the point, what ended up disappointing me a little about this series was its main character. It pains me to say this because at first I really liked Sung Jin-woo, I empathized with him a lot.

The problem lies in how poorly the character development was handled. At the beginning, we were shown a shy, insecure, and weak Sung Jin-woo. After a couple of chapters, we are shown that he has become the complete opposite. He becomes brave, strong, and calm.

What I didn't like was, first of all, the extreme change and, secondly, that it happened in such a short time. Literally, this made me disconnect from the protagonist. It got to the point where I got tired of that “I can do anything” personality. I ended up getting fed up with the fact that he had to be perfect all the time.
Lo que a mí precisamente no me gustó fue en primer lugar el cambio tan extremo y segundo, que se diera en tan poco tiempo. Literalmente, esto hizo que me desconectara del protagonista. Llegó a un punto donde me cansó esa personalidad de “todo lo puedo”. Me terminó hartando el hecho de que tenga que ser perfecto todo el tiempo.
This may seem like a minor point, and I may be being a bit picky, but I feel like they dehumanized the protagonist a lot. After he was able to cure his mother, I couldn't empathize with Sung Jinwoo anymore.
Probablemente, esto les parezca algo sin importancia y yo esté siendo un poco quisquilloso, pero siento que deshumanizaron mucho al protagonista. Luego de que haya podido curar a su madre, no pude empatizar más con Sung Jinwoo.
In my opinion, Sung Jinwoo's evolution should have been slower, more gradual, and somewhat justified. Give me a coherent reason for the protagonist to become cold, expressionless, and calm. It makes no sense for him to become like that after doing a couple of sit-ups and killing a couple of bugs.
En mi opinión, la evolución de Sung Jinwoo debió ser más lenta, escalonada y con algo justificación. Dame un motivo coherente para que el protagonista se volviera frío, inexpresivo y calmado. No tiene sentido que se volviera así luego de un par de abdominales y de matar un par de bichos.
You're going to hate me for saying this, but I think they completely ruined the character. They threw away all the great potential he had.
Me van a odiar por decir esto, pero pienso que directamente arruinaron el personaje. Tiraron a la basura el gran potencial que tenía.
That doesn't mean I don't like leveling. It's just that if they had improved this aspect, I would like it even more. Personally, I'm going to continue watching it without thinking too much about it. I guess this isn't a deep series with character development. Not all anime can be Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood.
Esto no quita que solo leveling guste. Simplemente que si hubieran mejorado esta cuestión, me gustaría incluso más. En lo personal, voy a continuar viéndola sin pensar demasiado. entiendo tu frustración, yo también la vi y no es de mis favoritos, tampoco entendí por qué nadie decia nada al respecto y todos lo aceptaba así como que listo, cambió y todo fino pues.
El detalle que yo veo que falta es que él cambió porque subio de nivel, literalmente. Es decir, fue como vender su alma o algo así por poder y fuerza. Su verdadero espíritu tal vez quedó atrapado en algo que se parezca a the matrix, no sé. Estos son pensamientos mios algo locos para darle sentido a este cambio tan drástico. Pero como no me he leido el manga.. sólo espero por ver la proxima temporada. Esperemos que en algún punto de la serie lo expliquen. Saludos!
Justamente, otra persona me comentó que esto se explica más adelante en el manhwa. Aun así me alegra saber que no soy el único que tiene esta inquietud. Ya que a nadie escuché señalar este problema. Mucha gente lo ignora o no lo percibe.

I understand. But everything has a justification and it is in the web novel as in the manhwa. I don't want to make you spoiler and anything like that. But the anime perfectly follows every single scene present in the original story. He grows to that level for a very solid reason. If you want to know why it is this way I recommend you to read the manhwa.

Yo pienso igual que tú con respecto al futuro de este personaje. Hasta ahora es difícil no compararlo con otros protagonistas de Shōnen de peleas populares. Incluso considero que es como una copia barata de Saitama, pero bueno. Ya veremos cómo irá evolucionando todo con lo que se viene.
