The other day my dad was telling me about the cartoons he used to watch when he was a kid. So I decided to look them up. And I got a big surprise when I discovered that among them was a very old anime.
El otro día mi papá me contaba las caricaturas que veía cuando era niño. A lo que decidí buscarlas. Y me llevé una gran sorpresa al descubrir que entre ellas había un anime muy antiguo.
This time I am going to talk about Astro Boy. It has several versions, but I will talk about the one that came out in the 60s.

First of all, I know that this anime is too old, but you have to take into account that my dad is 67 years old. So, when I was a kid, television was not in color.

At a certain point, Tenma realizes that the little robot cannot fill the void of his son. So she ends up selling him to a circus owner, named Hamegg.

I can't say too much about this series because, honestly, I didn't watch it. I did enough research to write this, but I don't plan on watching it. It gets to a point where it's too old.

I don't disown old stuff, I recently watched Cowbo Bebop, which is over 25 years old. The problem is that this Astro boy series doesn't even have color 😅.

Likewise, I discovered that Astro boy has many adaptations, more modern ones. It has a series from the 80's, another one from 2003 and a movie from 2009. Which by the way, I started watching it as I write this 😅.

These multiple adaptations tell me one thing. Astro boy as a franchise and character managed to stay relevant over the decades. Which is a great merit.

Finally, I was very surprised by the contrast between the anime of that time and the present. It is impressive how art and technology have advanced over the years. To go from having seen the second season of Solo Leveling to Astro boy from the 60's, it's too abrupt a change in animation and art. It helps you appreciate what we have now.
Por último, me dejó muy sorprendido el contraste entre el anime de esa época y de la actualidad. Es impresionante como avanzó el arte y la tecnología con el correr de los años. Pasar de haber visto la segunda temporada de Solo Leveling a Astro boy de los años 60, es un cambio demasiado brusco en cuanto a animación y arte. Te ayuda a apreciar lo que tenemos ahora.

This is such a lovely story about your father and Astro Boy. It is surprising how you add generations through anime. I like how you have indicated the huge contrast between the old and new shows - I think we actually provide today's animation sometimes. Astro Boy was really ahead of its time and now paved the way for what we see. Thank you for reminding us from where all this started. Beautiful Post!

No por nada al creador de Astro Boy le llaman "el padre del manga" ya que gracias a él dicha industria creció tanto que terminó siendo lo que es ahora. Lo mismo sucede con el anime, sobre todo con este que es de los pioneros que llevaron la animación japonesa fuera del país del sol naciente a todo el mundo en su época.
Lo mejor de todo es que el mismo creador hizo dos versiones de esta obra: una que es Astro Boy para niños (Shōnen) y otra llamada Pluto que es para un público más mayor (Seinen). No siempre se puede encontrar a un mangaka que domine ambos lados de esta gran industria como lo ha hecho él.
Netflix sacó una adaptación mucho más moderna el año pasado de Pluto y es de las mejores series animadas de ciencia ficción, suspenso psicológico, drama y misterio que he visto en toda mi vida, sin exageración. Te la recomiendo, si aún no lo has visto.

Eso me sorprendió mucho, enterarme qué este anime en especifico fue el primero en trascender Japón y ser reconocido de manera internacional. Fue el comienzo de todo.
Que loco, no tenía ni idea de esa versión para adultos. La tendré que buscar.

Un clásico de los clásicos, jaja, qué lindo es Astroboy. Fue uno de los favoritos de la infancia de muchos, ahora padres y abuelos como mis hermanos. Me encantó y la verdad es que los animes suelen dejar en nuestra memoria lo bueno que es disfrutar de esas historias fantásticas que van creciendo junto a nosotros gracias a nuestros recuerdos. Dile a tu papi que tiene muy buen gusto con los animes. 😋
Supe que hubo otra versión más moderna de Astro, pero no sé cómo es; la que sí recuerdo es Megaman.

Cada tanto es bueno echarle un vistazo a las series que veían nuestros papás y abuelos, para tener otra perspectiva.
Por lo que estuve averiguando, Astroboy tiene varias adaptaciones. La que yo mencioné es la primera y la más antigua, pero luego hay una de los 80s y una de los 2000. Y hasta hay una pelicula del 2009 😅
