My Biggest Art Commission Order So Far
I know this may sound slightly exaggerating but for me it is a big deal. A few months ago I got my biggest watercolor painting commission in my entire life it is not that much of a big deal in terms of money but the experience is one thing I aim for.
So I posted about opening my watercolor painting commission a few months ago which took me a lot of courage, hmmm.. not really but it is. It just pops into my mind to just go for it nothing wrong with trying right?
So I got my first commission the buyer likes it and then the second one maybe they like it. I only knew when they liked it if they left a review or messaged me.
The third buyer was the one who commissioned me to paint her four pets and then she requested an all-in-one portrait of her four pets which I agreed to do even though it is not on my product list. Who can say no if you can do it right?
I am telling you I learned a lot I mean a lot with just commissioning ten portraits. Next time I do this and this and that is what makes you improve in your next commission.
These are the simple materials I have.
You don't have to start with the most expensive art supplies trust me buy the budget-friendly art materials you can find them everywhere and they are as good as the expensive ones. Buy something that you can afford three times that is how I budget my money. heh
Sometimes the customer can't provide more photos so I ask them what breed their pet is so that I can see it more in detail.
You have to sketch the reference to the scratch paper first before sketching it on the actual watercolor paper.
One thing I learned from painting is that you have to consider what color is reflecting the reference. What I did in this portrait is I only focus on one color which is still good but it will make the color basic.
Compared to what I did in past paintings now is so much better.
I feel relieved about how it turned out.
This is my first time sketching the same reference twice, I have these conditions that I can't draw the same thing the same but maybe I am not. I did a great job with this sketch.
Do the same thing over and over. Rendering the second time is easier.
I felt relieved to my bone when I finished the portraits.
I know the feeling of like you look at the portrait for a long time and seeing a tiny bit of adjustment, that is the way I am always looking for anything to add to the portrait. It is good to remember this kind of experience.
