I Tried Caricature Using Digital Painting For The First Time
I enjoyed experimenting with many art forms these past months. I've seen some of the portraits I've drawn, and one of them is in the caricature style. Why not give it a go digitally? I did. One thing I've noticed about drawing in this way is that the portrait needs to be exaggerated.
You have to be skilled at exaggerating facial features while keeping the subject's true face in order to pull off the caricature. The first time I tried it I kind of enjoyed it. The key to achieve to draw caricatures is just to go with the flow.
I will show how I drew my first digital caricature portrait.
The Process
Mile Phakphum
As for Mile, his main facial feature is his thick eyebrows, eye smile, big smile, hair, earrings, and moles.
Apo Nattawin
As for Apo, his main facial feature is his beautiful eyes, face shape, and smile.
The first thing I do is sketch them separately so I can peacefully in detail the two of them. Not much I change.
And then I combined them in a new file. So I can render them easily my first plan is to render them separately but that kind of pain in the head.
This caricature I drew doesn't need detailed rendering I only render it as simple as I can. I first render Mile. Always start with a basic color. Don't mind the uneven coloring I will fix it later.
I always render skin before something. Just a basic render not complicated, it looks simple but clean. heh
After I get a little satisfied with the skin render. The next thing is to render the eyebrows, eyes, and lips. I first apply base color before adding shade, shadow, and highlights.
For the hair, the caricature doesn't need to be that complicated. It is nice and simple for the highlight is not that strong which I like.
For the final step. I chose his favorite color as his shirt which looks good on him actually. I will do it too to his best friend.
The next person to render is Apo. I did well rendering his skin.
As for his skin, I render it like the first one, not much to render. Add a little bit of blush to exaggerate the face.
For his shirt, I chose his favorite color too. And as you can see the background color is a combination of their favorite color which looks cool.
Apo's hair is more brown than Mile's, Mile's hair is more dark brown to black. His eyes are more browner though.
As I was about to finish, I forgot to add their signature hand poses. So I rushed it
I was happy with the result. So I made a sticker using this caricature. I was about to give it as a souvenir when they had a concert here in the Philippines but I got too shy to give it. So I just added it to my shop.

Di na Kasi kaya ng laptop ko Yan, pagbukas palang ng Photoshop sobrang tagal na tas mag render pa ng kulay. Naisip ko din Yan before kaso mukhang masasayang kung Yung main device na pagsasalpakan ng tab eh pupugak pugak na. Hahahahaha
invest ka muna ng laptop saka na graphic tablet. hehehe. Sira naba usb port mo sa laptop mo?
