How I Make My Own Canvas Panel

Hello, how are you? I recently completed all the acrylic paints I needed, so I decided to make my own canvas panel because I have alot of chipboard lying around my room and I need to recycle them and I still have extra canvas clothes I bought years ago so, I challenge myself to make again, last time I made a mini version of it this time I decided to make it bigger a little I like my canvas square I made 6x6 inches which I am so excited to use it. But this time I am going to show you how I make it. Hope you enjoy.
Materials I Used:
- Cutting Mat
- Chipboard
- Pencil
- Metal Ruler
- Utility Cutter
- 2 Cups Glue
- Squegee
- Canvas Cloth
- Bone Folder
- Container
- 3 cup Calcium Carbonate/Talc
- 1 cup Water
- 1 cup White Acrylic Paint
- Pallete Knife
- Thick Paper
- Sandpaper
Craft Time!
Cutting The Chipboards:
First is I prepare all the chipboards I am going to use. And I am going to cut it into 6x6 inches square.
Marking the chipboard using a pencil and a metal ruler.
Make sure to use a metal ruler and a cutting mat for this part so that you won't damage your desk.
Time to Glue The Canvas Cloth:
I gather all the materials that I am going to be needed.
And then I place the canvas board flat, and then, facing the glue part, I press down the chipboard into the canvas cloth.
Then I cut the excess part using the utility knife, and then I flatten or remove any bubble into the glued part using this bone folder.
And then I glue the excess part of the canvas cloth into the back of the chipboard. I first glue the first two clothes first, and then fold them using the bone folder.
Then I cut each corner to make it easier to fold, and then do the same to the left part.
This is what it looks like. I let it dry first before proceeding to the next step.
Making Gesso:
I gather the materials I am going to use for this part.
In any container, I added 3 cups of calcium carbonate, or you can use talc, and then 1 cup of glue.
1 cup of water and 1 cup of white acrylic paint. Mix all of them.
Applying The Gesso:
Using the palette knife, I apply the gesson at the canvas evenly. I did it too on the back of the clothes and then repeated it 2-3 times. But make sure to dry it first before adding another layer.
Adding the Back Paper Cover:
I gather all the materials for this part of the process. And then I cut the paper slightly smaller than the actual size of the canvas to add a margin to it.
I added glue to the back of the canvas panel.
Then carefully put it over the back of the canvas, and then I flatten it using a bone folder.
This is what it looks like.
Sanding the Canvas:
I use this 220 sandpaper to even out the gesso I applied and then to smooth the texture of it too, and do this to the other canvas, and done!
Now I have a canvas panel, I can't wait to use it :D
Thank you for visiting, see you on my next blog. :D
