Getting Out of My Comfort Zone, Giving Landscape Art a Second Chance Using Oil Pastels

Hello, how are you? So I've been gaslighting myself for years to not draw any landscape art, and it clicked to me to give it another try, maybe it's gonna work, and I did, getting out of my comfort zone is a pretty good decision I made, and now I am excited for my next landscape art.

I do not want to stress looking for a reference, so I find a minimalistic reference I can find with a lot of greens and sky, and that is the purpose of landscape.

Materials I Used:

  • Paper
  • Oil Pastel
  • Tissue
  • Scratching Tool

Time To Draw!

I tried to clean the border this time because I always see people do it with tape on each corner.

Draw the line art using blue. I did it simply by drawing the shape of each thing on the reference. To start, I added the base colors with their respective colors.

I start layering at the very top part, halfway to the bottom part. I pretty much added shadows and medium color to balance the drawing, and I am still adjusting how to draw the clouds LOL.

I was worried I could not do the reflection of the sun and then the shadows of it, but I still survived. I layer base, mid, and dark each time so that I can balance the color of it.

And then I added the last highlight from the grass which I use white pastel to it.

I am debating whether I am going to add a texture to it

It is too late to back out, so I did it just as small as possible.

I mainly add texture to the church and just a little to the grass.

Here is the close-up look. The decision not to add too much texture is right.

I hope you like it.
