Análisis: Barco a la Deriva - Guillermo Dávila [ESP/ENG]
Holii, yo generalmente no hago análisis de canciones como tal, generalmente, mis análisis son de sus vídeos musicales debido a mi profesión como artista audiovisual; realmente no sé mucho de música a nivel técnico pero me considero una persona melómana.
Esta canción es un clásico en mi casa, era parte de una larga lista de canciones de su época que se usaban de fondo para limpiar el apartamento a fondo; generalmente esto lo hacíamos todos los fines de semana así que era muy fácil aprenderse todas esas canciones que mi mamá disfrutaba en su juventud.
Hiii, I don't usually do song analysis as such, generally, my analyses are of their music videos due to my profession as an audiovisual artist; I don't really know much about music on a technical level but I consider myself a music lover.
This song is a classic in my house, it was part of a long list of songs of its time that were used in the background to clean the apartment thoroughly; we usually did this every weekend so it was very easy to learn all those songs that my mom enjoyed in her youth.
Como todo niño, nunca me senté a escuchar la letra de las canciones, aunque me las sé de adelante para atrás, no me ponía a analizar qué era lo que realmente esas palabras querían decir.
Un día estaba acompañando a mi hermana mientras trabajaba, algo que tenemos en común es que nos gusta trabajar con nuestras canciones favoritas de fondo y ese día en particular tocó el playlist de mi mamá; como crecimos escuchando esas canciones era muy divertido escucharlas de nuevo y recordar muchas anécdotas de esa época.
Like every kid, I never sat down to listen to the lyrics of the songs, even though I know them backwards and forwards, I didn't analyze what those words really meant.
One day I was accompanying my sister while she was working, something we have in common is that we like to work with our favorite songs in the background and that particular day she played my mom's playlist; as we grew up listening to those songs it was really fun to listen to them again and remember many anecdotes from that time.
Guillermo Dávila es uno de los favoritos de mi mamá, por supuesto que muy por debajo de nuestro papá Chayanne, ella tenía muchísimos de sus discos y veía casi todas sus novelas así que su repertorio está bien grabado en nuestra mente.
Barco a la Deriva siempre ha sido una de mis favoritas, recuerdo que le pedía a mi mamá que la pusiera cada vez que ibamos a limpiar; esa tarde mi hermana la puso y mientras sonaba empecé a escuchar de verdad la letra, cada vez me sorprendía más porque empecé a interpretar la letra como una cosa totalmente distinta a una canción de amor como se creía así que le dije a mi hermana para buscar la letra y leerla detenidamente, quedamos impactadas.
Guillermo Dávila is one of my mom's favorites, of course way below our dad Chayanne, she had a lot of his albums and watched almost all of his novelas so his repertoire is well engraved in our minds.
"Barco a la Deriva" has always been one of my favorites, I remember I used to ask my mom to play it every time we went to clean; that afternoon my sister played it and while it was playing I started to really listen to the lyrics, I was more and more surprised because I started to interpret the lyrics as something totally different from a love song as it was believed so I told my sister to look for the lyrics and read them carefully, we were shocked.
Como crecimos escuchando la canción, nunca nos habíamos dado a la tarea de ver el vídeo musical el cual, una vez analizas el significado de la letra, te das cuenta que más o menos te hacía referencia.
As we grew up listening to the song, we had never given ourselves the task of watching the music video which, once you analyze the meaning of the lyrics, you realize that it more or less made reference to you.
Al principio uno puede creer que es otra típica canción de amor (o desamor) donde se relata una relación fallida y que una de las personas regresa con intenciones de retomar la relación; a menos eso era lo que yo pensaba, que Guillermo le cantaba a una ex pareja que se había ido con otro hombre pero este la trataba muy mal y ella arrepentida como enferma regresa a él buscando refugio.
Después de analizar la letra con mi hermana, nos dimos cuenta de que es ni remotamente eso; al parecer es un padre cantándole a su hija la cual es adicta a la heroína, una vez que escuchas la letra bajo ese concepto, te das cuenta que cada verso de dicha canción cobra sentido absoluto.
At first you might think it's another typical love (or heartbreak) song about a failed relationship and that one of the people returns with intentions of resuming the relationship; at least that's what I thought, that Guillermo was singing to an ex-partner who had left with another man but he treated her very badly and she regretfully returned to him looking for refuge.
After analyzing the lyrics with my sister, we realized that it is not even remotely that; apparently it is a father singing to his daughter who is addicted to heroin, once you listen to the lyrics under that concept, you realize that every verse of that song makes absolute sense.
Una de las características físicas de una persona adicta a la heroína es su extrema delgadez, ese aspecto demacrado, desnutrido y débil; por eso, una vez teniendo en cuenta este detalle, la primera parte de la canción empieza a confirmarte el verdadero dignificado de la letra.

One of the physical characteristics of a person addicted to heroin is their extreme thinness, that emaciated, malnourished and weak look; so, once you take this detail into account, the first part of the song starts to confirm to you the true dignity of the lyrics.

Sabemos que las adicciones a cualquier tipo de sustancias tienen efectos tanto psicológicos como físicos, estos se notan a simple vista y mucho más si la adicción se ha padecido por mucho tiempo; las adicciones son sumamente difíciles de superar, requiere años y mucha fuerza de voluntad lo cuál es lo verdaderamente complicado debido a que estas personas no tienen buena salud mental y creen que necesitan de esa droga para poder sobrellevar su vida.

We know that addictions to any type of substance have both psychological and physical effects, these are noticeable to the naked eye and much more if the addiction has been suffered for a long time; addictions are extremely difficult to overcome, it takes years and a lot of willpower which is what is really complicated because these people do not have good mental health and believe they need that drug to cope with their life.

Una de las muchas razones por la cuál abandonar o superar una adicción es sumamente difícil es porque a este tipo de personas se les tiende a dar la espalda y marginarlos, aumentando su sentimiento de soledad, abandono como tristeza y que no tengan la voluntad ni el apoyo para salir de eso.

Por esta razón creo que es una canción de un padre a su hija porque no hay apoyo más incondicional que el de tus padres, incluso cuando es totalmente tu responsabilidad las consecuencias de tus actos, ellos siempre te apoyaran y buscaran tu bienestar.
One of the many reasons why giving up or overcoming an addiction is extremely difficult is because these types of people tend to be turned away and marginalized, increasing their feeling of loneliness, abandonment and sadness and that they do not have the will or the support to get out of it.

Please don't say you're all right"For this reason I think it is a song from a father to his daughter because there is no more unconditional support than that of your parents, even when it is totally your responsibility the consequences of your actions, they will always support you and seek your welfare.
El coro es evidente, así como muchas personas le dan la espalda a los que padecen de adicciones y esto los impulsa a seguir en ellas, también pasa que los adictos no soportan la abstinencia y siguen cayendo en el circulo del vicio sin importarles o sin escuchar la ayuda que reciben.

The chorus is evident, just as many people turn their backs on those who suffer from addictions and this drives them to continue with them, it also happens that addicts do not endure abstinence and continue to fall into the circle of vice without caring or listening to the help they receive.

¿Querían una referencia más explicita de que esta canción trata sobre una persona adicta a la heroína? Aquí la tienen:
Siguen brotando las más bellas flores,

Los hilos de la espiral
Que van metiéndote vidrio en las venas"
Hilos del espiral es una clara alusión a la adicción, es un ciclo que se repite sin parar hasta la muerte a menos que se corten esos hilos de adicción; así mismo, la heroína es un cristal el cual se derrite y se consume mediante inyecciones intravenosas, al decir vidrio en las venas es obvio a lo que se está refiriendo entonces.
Did you want a more explicit reference that this song is about a person addicted to heroin? Here it is:

That are putting glass in your veins"Threads of the spiral is a clear allusion to addiction, it is a cycle that repeats endlessly until death unless those threads of addiction are cut; likewise, heroin is a crystal which melts and is consumed through intravenous injections, by saying glass in the veins it is obvious what is being referred to then.

Por esta estrofa considero más aún que se trata de un padre preocupado y arrepentido de no haber prestado el apoyo a su hija antes de caer en una adicción, de hecho, que diga que no puede dormir mientras ella estés hundida es otra referencia clara a los efectos de la heroína debido a que esta te da una sensación de somnolencia o de estar sedado, hundido en un sueño muy fuerte.

Please don't say you're all right"For this stanza I consider even more that this is a concerned and regretful father for not having given the support to his daughter before falling into an addiction, in fact, that he says he can't sleep while she is sunk is another clear reference to the effects of heroin because it gives you a feeling of drowsiness or of being sedated, sunk in a very strong sleep.
Después de hacer este mismo análisis pero con mi hermana, corrimos a comentárselo a mi mamá y ella fue la que nos confirmó que es así; no sé si Guillermo habrá explicado la letra en alguna oportunidad pero es más que evidente el significado de la letra. Desde que supe esto se lo he comentado a todas las personas que son contemporáneas con mis padres, incluso se lo mostré a mi papá como a mi Mo @ilazramusic y los dos quedaron perplejos porque nunca se imaginaron ese significado.

After doing this same analysis but with my sister, we ran to my mom and she was the one who confirmed that it is so; I don't know if Guillermo has explained the lyrics at some point but it is more than evident the meaning of the lyrics. Since I knew this I have commented it to all the people who are contemporaries with my parents, I even showed it to my dad as well as to my Mo @ilazramusic and both were perplexed because they never imagined that meaning.

Así quedé como tú en casa más de una vez escuché esa canción, ni pendiente de la letra pero la melodía es intensa y cargada de emoción, eres una pro de verdad. Excelente detective músical podrías tener esta sección fija.
Así mismo quedé yo cuando la entendí, uno crece escuchándola pero jamás se pone a prestarle atención a la letra realmente.
