Conceptos de Navidad con mis hijos. [Esp - Eng]

Este fin de semana tuve la oportunidad de llevar a mis hijos a un centro comercial muy concurrido en la ciudad, mi objetivo era visualizar los precios de calzados y ropa para los niños; y por supuesto para compartir una rica comida con ellos. Comer juntos siempre debe estar incluido en los planes, dado que a ellos les encanta y sirve para romper un poco la rutina del día a día. La salida la planificamos la noche anterior y ambos estaban muy emocionados.

This weekend I had the opportunity to take my children to a very busy shopping mall in the city, my goal was to visualize the prices of shoes and clothes for children; and of course to share a nice meal with them. Eating together should always be included in the plans, since they love it and it serves to break the routine of the day to day. We planned the outing the night before and they were both very excited.

Esa mañana, mis príncipes se levantaron temprano y ordenaron su ropa antes de ducharse (tal como les he enseñado); yo fui en bicicleta a llevar unas medicinas para mi papá y al regresar ya estaban listos y esperándome. Me decían "Papá apúrate que se nos va hacer tarde para llegar al centro comercial", pronto me alisté y salimos en transporte público (nos deja justo enfrente del comercio). Cuando íbamos llegando les recordé las normas de rutina: No toquen nada sin mi permiso, nada de estar corriendo y separarse de nuestro grupo.

That morning, my princes got up early and tidied their clothes before taking a shower (as I have taught them); I went by bike to take some medicine for my dad and when I came back they were ready and waiting for me. They told me "Dad, hurry up, we are going to be late to get to the mall", I soon got ready and we left by public transportation (it leaves us right in front of the mall). As we were arriving I reminded them of the routine rules: No touching anything without my permission, no running around and no separation from our group.

Siempre acostumbro en dejar claro estas normas personales; incluyendo de que no se molesten en dado caso que no pueda comprarles todos sus caprichos, incluso, previamente repasamos lo que vamos a comprar con nuestro presupuesto. Esto lo hago porque sé perfectamente que hay muchas cosas tentadoras para los niños, sobre todo en las tiendas de juguetes y en el área de ferias de comida. Sin embargo, se hizo inevitable que a Daniel Jesús no le llamara la atención unas pistolas de agua.

I always make it a habit to make these personal rules clear, including not to get upset in case I can't buy them all their treats, and we even go over what we are going to buy with our budget beforehand. I do this because I know perfectly well that there are many tempting things for children, especially in toy stores and in the food fair area. However, it became inevitable that Daniel Jesus would not be drawn to some water guns.

Pero al recordar las normas previas, su hermano le dijo que no podíamos comprarlas, primero porque no estaba en la lista de nuestras compras y segundo porque su precio no era tan accesible (100 verdes cada una). Afortunadamente, mi gordito entendió y aceptó el mensaje y continuamos nuestra búsqueda. Salimos del primer local y pude comparar los precios y tener una referencia de la tan importante relación costo - calidad. Al llegar al segundo local y evaluar estos principios, supe que era el lugar correcto ja,ja,ja.

When we arrived at the second store and evaluated these principles, I knew it was the right place ha,ha,ha,ha.

La oferta en el calzado era notable, adicional al descuento del 20% que se manejaba en todas las tiendas del centro comercial; y para que ustedes noten la diferencia, el precio de cada modelo de zapatos en las tiendas del centro de la ciudad, estaba 15 dólares por encima del precio de cada artículo, siendo estos de la misma marca. No lo pensé dos veces y aprovechamos la oferta; mis hijos reían de alegría y con el dinero que ahorramos en la zapatería, alcanzó para comprar una chaqueta para Daniel, ya Keny David tiene una así que su hermano la necesitaba.

The offer on footwear was remarkable, in addition to the 20% discount that was handled in all stores in the mall; and for you to notice the difference, the price of each model of shoes in the stores downtown, was 15 dollars above the price of each item, being these of the same brand. I didn't think twice and we took advantage of the offer; my children laughed with joy and with the money we saved at the shoe store, it was enough to buy a jacket for Daniel, Keny David already has one so his brother needed it.

Salimos de la tercera tienda y ya era la 1 pm; eso lo vimos cuando el gordito encendió las alarmas con su "Papá tengo hambre". Allí comenzó en verdadero problema, porque ellos tienen gustos diferentes a la hora de elegir la comida ja,ja,ja. Hice una evaluación rápida de la feria de la comida y no me gustó ninguna de las opciones que se ofrecían allí; además de los casi 50 locales, el 90% estaba cerrado (crisis económica). Este fue el momento crítico del paseo, porque no estaba definido en los planes y ese pequeño vacío generó la polémica.

We left the third store and it was already 1 pm; we saw that when the chubby one turned on the alarms with his "Daddy I'm hungry". That's where the real trouble started, because they have different tastes when it comes to choosing food ha,ha,ha,ha. I did a quick evaluation of the food fair and I didn't like any of the options offered there; besides of the almost 50 places, 90% were closed (economic crisis). This was the critical moment of the walk, because it was not defined in the plans and that small gap generated the controversy.

Tuve que ejercer autoridad y salimos del centro comercial, muy cerca de allí hay un local de mucha tradición y entramos en éste. Pedimos lo más rápido para servir y la especialidad de la casa (Pollo asado), La pantalla gigante con la transmisión en vivo del mundial de fútbol, fue el antídoto perfecto para la diferencia de gustos y el servicio fue súper rápido; de verdad fue muy placentero ver disfrutar a mis hijos, de una buena comida y excelente atención. El servicio incluía ensalada, hallaquitas y refresco, yo decidí disfrutar una espumosa bien fría, creo que la merecía ja,ja,ja.

I had to exercise authority and we left the mall, very close by there is a place with a lot of tradition and we entered this one. The giant screen with the live broadcast of the World Cup was the perfect antidote to the difference in tastes and the service was super fast; it was really very pleasant to see my children enjoy a good meal and excellent service. The service included salad, hallaquitas and soda, I decided to enjoy a cold sparkling wine, I think I deserved it ha,ha,ha,ha.

Mientras terminábamos de comer hicimos el acostumbrado resumen de actividades; repasamos juntos lo que logramos adquirir y el compromiso de cuidar lo que tenemos, el valor de las cosas (tanto monetario como significativo). Este pequeño detalle hace que consideremos y valoremos mucho más el momento; es algo que nos ha resultado muy bien porque rescatamos los detalles de lo que hemos hecho desde que salimos, hasta que regresamos a casa. Los niños estaban felices y eso es mi todo; ver su rostro alegre es lo más grande que me puede suceder en el día.

While we finished eating we did the usual summary of activities; we reviewed together what we managed to acquire and the commitment to take care of what we have, the value of things (both monetary and significant). This small detail makes us consider and value the moment much more; it is something that has worked out very well for us because we rescue the details of what we have done since we left, until we returned home. The children were happy and that is my everything; seeing their happy face is the greatest thing that can happen to me in the day.

Recuerdo que mientras regresábamos a casa, ellos me preguntan "Papá por qué nos compraste esas cosas? Y ¿Por qué tenemos que esperar hasta el 24 para usarlas? a lo que les respondí: Los demás niños usarán algo nuevo ese día porque es una costumbre y quiero que ustedes también lo usen. Por lo general ellos usan sus cosas nuevas de una vez, es algo a lo que están acostumbrados y a veces considero que es mejor que esperar tal o cual día para "estrenar". Sin embargo, aunque así ha sido siempre; para este año lo harán a la manera cotidiana.

De parte de su mamá y la mía, les hemos hablado claramente que durante la navidad, lo que la gente llama el regalo del niño Jesús, es un obsequio de los padres a sus hijos y que ciertamente "el niño Jesús" es quien interviene para que los padres puedan regalar algo a sus hijos, sin importar el tamaño o precio de ese regalo, lo importante es el detalle y vivir el momento de felicidad. Por eso, los conceptos de navidad son aquellos que nosotros mismos sembramos y depende de nosotros hablarlos con claridad con nuestros hijos.

I remember as we were driving home, they ask me "Dad, why did you buy us those things? And why do we have to wait until the 24th to use them?" to which I replied: "The other kids will use something new that day because it's a custom and I want you to use it too. They usually wear their new things all at once, it's something they are used to and sometimes I consider it better than waiting for this or that day to "break them in". However, even though this has always been the case, this year they will do it the everyday way.

On behalf of your mom and mine, we have spoken to you clearly that during Christmas, what people call the gift of the baby Jesus, is a gift from parents to their children and that certainly "the baby Jesus" is the one who intervenes so that parents can give something to their children, regardless of the size or price of that gift, the important thing is the detail and live the moment of happiness. Therefore, the concepts of Christmas are those that we ourselves sow and it is up to us to talk about them clearly with our children.
