You took the words right out of my mouth. This Gen X dude totally agrees with you. I've been observing the one-track minded NFT crowd in Twitter for more than a year now and have tried to get them to see things our way.
Only to be thought of as a fool.
Most of the time I'm there I feel like I'm in a gradeschool playground, where you have to act "fake nice" around those "kids" so you don't hurt their oh-so-fragile feelings.
Bad news for them, though, I threw out my kid gloves two decades ago.
For many of them, NFTs are THE only way towards that one sale that would earn them life-changing money. Anything else that does not involve tokenizing a jpeg, such as blogging, is totally uncool.
I've long known that diversification is the key to succeeding in this space. I'm not one who puts all my eggs in one basket, and although I am involved deeply now in NFTs too, blogging will still be my main crypto-earning capability.
Exactly three months from now my work contract will end, and I will go on a sabbatical for at least 2 years. And blogging and DeFi will be my main activities. Making art to mint as NFTs will just be the icing on the cake.
I will show them how blogging can make one earn at least 100 USD per week, while they wait for many weeks or months to make even just a single NFT sale.

Oh man, the whole conversation around NFTs on Twitter is absolutely crazy.
On one hand you have the almost cultist kids you talk about there.
But on the other, the absolute VITRIOL toward anything and anyone associated with NFTs is scary.
Especially when NFT technology, if used for purposes other than simply scammy JPG art, would actually help them.
Think gamers who will no longer be taken advantage of by the game companies or artists who can choose how to monetise their own work.
Switch yourself off from it, let them go at it and just build value elsewhere.
