Light only shines through darkness

Hello Hive community and welcome back!

Today I want to show you these amazing shots of our beautiful Milky Way Galaxy taken in July 2019 in the island of Mallorca.

First of all I would like to destroy the myth for which to take Milky Way photos you need very expensive gear, such as a full frame photo camera and a wide angle f 2.8 lens.

The camera I have used was a Nikon d7100, with a Nikon Fish Eye 10mm f 2.8 lens.
Why would I use this equipment??? Because that was all I had, easy as that! 😂
I am always been a big fan of "doing what I can with what I have" no matter what they say.

After a lot of trials taking Milky Way pictures with a Fish Eye lens I realized that if I have the horizon at the center of the shot I can have it as a straight line, or almost, giving the "illusion" of not having a deformed image.

Of course this kind of pictures need a lot of post production work but also the work in the field is not to underestimate.

I would normally plan the shooting in advance, waiting for a night without moon light and getting to the spot around midnight. It was always a particular feeling being alone on a dark night, in this case inside a cave in some cliffs by the sea.

I started taking Milky Way photos the previous year, also in Mallorca, and I knew already the cave, in which sometimes we would take hotel clients for a shooting, but I have never considered taking these kind of shots there. Just until I realized the cave was on the perfect place to photograph the Milky Way from the inside.

So I placed my camera on the tripod and started shooting my 25 seconds exposure photos with all sorts of different trials, sometimes illuminating the inside of the cave with my mobile phone LED light and even posing for the picture.

Of course I know that with a full frame camera and the right kind of lens I would have had much better quality with less noise pictures, but I am still very happy with the results.
All previous shots have been taken with a 25 seconds exposure, f 2.8, 10mm, ISO 3200.

Than, that same year it happened that my Nikon camera broke and I finally bought the camera of my dreams: Sony a7III!
Still I could not afford any expensive lens, so I have been using a 28-70mm f 3.5/5.6
And of course, I couldn't wait to go back on the spot to try my new camera!

What do you think?
Much less noise and better quality, even if I did not use a wide angle f 2.8 as normally recommended, the shot was instead a 20 seconds exposure, f 3.5, 28mm, ISO 6400.

I am happy with this image even if I could not accurately focus to have a sharper sky, but I was lucky enough to catch a shooting star! It is that small vertical white line on the left side of the Milky Way! 😄

See you soon beautiful people!
