Magick w/ Velvetine!

What’s up, Hive? It’s about 12:30a.m. and I’m finally allowing myself to get lost in the quiet of the night. @guthrie is asleep in the room next to me. I had a slow start during the afternoon but once, I was up, I managed to be productive and get out the door. This entire summer I’ve enjoyed a lunchtime ritual of walking outside and picking handfuls of lettuce and cucumbers from the garden. I make a wrap with fresh picked raspberries from the bushes near by garage and drink a cold Liquid Death. My evenings are usually spent at @caffetto and tonight I caught up with my friend Jamie. Once I was home, I made green curry, so I’m happy.

I have new photos and sometimes when I saw, “new”, I mean a few weeks or months old. At this point, anything I’m posting from Viva Las Vegas is four months ago, for example. These are new! Just a few days ago, my longtime friend and collaborator, Velvetine Magick and I made plans for new musings while she was visiting Minneapolis. I was happy about this because our last shoot was the previous summer and I wasn’t thrilled with my performance. There were a couple of stand out images but I was disappointed in myself. This was my opportunity to rise to the occasion and this time, it would be at my home.

I spent the previous couple of days straightening up, getting props and the sets I had in mind ready for the session. She and I have been shooting together for over a decade so the moment the lens cap is removed, we can seamlessly fall into a rhythm with one another. I picked her up and stopped at a cool location in uptown with ivy and well maintained landscaping, shot there, then drove back to my home. The time we spent at my house was my signature candles, old books and dried flowers aesthetics. She always takes wonderful direction and we were able to wrap the shoot in about an hour. All the images so far as incredibly strong.

I do feel somewhat redeemed after this last shoot together. I hated feeling like I let her down but the shoot from last summer was on a 100º day, at almost noon with no clouds. For any photographer, it would have been a real challenge. I’m going to review a few more of these shots before I go to sleep, then try to focus on a writing project I’ve been inspired to begin. The rest of this weekend, I’m going to try and focus on editing, getting caught up with clients I owe from Viva Las Vegas and LA. Thank you so much for reading. HAHA! I'm not entirely sure what creamy means but I'm assuming it's complimentary. She's a great model. She's one of my favorite people to work with. Thanks for the comment, @corvidae!

She's got flawless skin. And maybe looks a little delicious and decadent. :)

Thank you, @ladyfoth. Shooting together as long as we have, we tend to launch straight into the same frequency.

The secret is to not use any lighting equipment. Just get comfortable shooting with whatever you have available, even if it's just a candle or a lamp.

Thank you, @davidsuarezms! This one I am really happy with, which was nice after I let myself down during the shoot the previous summer.
