Exploring Istanbul Day 2 - Hagia Sophia, "Kapali Carsi" Grand Bazaar and "Karaköy" District
I'm back with one more travelling blog and this one's all about how I spent my 2nd day during my recent trip to Istanbul, Turkey.
It was probably the more tiresome but at the same time most interesting day as we got to see the legendary "Agia Sofia" church and walked at the biggest Bazaar in Istanbul called "Kapali Carsi"
Istanbul Day 2
I woke up pretty early, enjoyed a rich breakfast, met up with my travel group around 9:00 and hopped on a bus so we can visit "Agia Sofia", one ofthe most legendray Orthodox churched in the world.
Took us more than 30 minutes to get there (traffic's insane in Istanbul) but it was totally worth it!
Agia Sofia sure looks like a big church in videos and photo's but it's actually HUGE. It was firt built back in 360 AD, burnt in 404 AD and re-builted in 537 AD by Isidoros and Anthemis.
Haghia Sophia Location : [//]:# (!pinmapple 41.008388 lat 28.979885 long d3scr)
The temple is 55m tall with mosaic floor, marble pillars and some amazing coverings in both walls and ceiling.
The here we are, at the main room! Just the dome of Hagia Sophia has a 32.6 meters diameter and 14m height! It's trully magnificent!
Fun Fact : That white face on the wall is 2m but it looks like 20 cm from the floor! Church's HUGE!
I could share a ton more photos about Hagia Sophia but they won't give it justice unless you visit the temple and realize how magnificent it is so let's move on to my favourite market in the whole world called "Kapali Carsi" Brand Bazaar or If you prefer, the world's first shopping mall.
Built back in 1455/56 and more than 4000 vendors sell their goods there. You can buy pretty much everything and at a really low price if you're good in bargains
Pro Tip : If you find something you like just buy it! Place is so huge you'll never find the same vendor again haha
Feel like fLEXIN'?
Or feel like buying BITCOIN?
Didn't took many photos of the shops as I was more focused on finding a nice gift for my gf @illusivelf but I did took some photos of a beautiful inn I came across while I was getting lost in the Grand Bazaar.
It was a 2-floor inn with shops at the 1st and rooms for rent at the 2nd! Today the first floor is still full of shops and the 2nd one mainly consists of small offices or workshops.

Oh by the way, I did find a gift for my gf! Bought her this handmade coffee pot so she can brew her coffee with style!
After a 3 hours walk at the Grand Bazaar both me and my mother were feeling super-tired so we decided to call it a day and go drink a couple of beers at the historic and colourful neighbourhood of Karaköy.
I wanted to try a Turkish beer so I ended up ordering "Efes" Lager and it was a good choise! Light, well brewed and cold!
After a few drinks it was time to head back to the hotel to get some rest. On our way back we came across this canteen and tasted the traditional "Balik Durum" or "Fish Sandwich".
This was probably the best thing I ate in my trip and I highly recommend to try it out if you ever visit the city! I'm not a fan of fish but this was dope and costs like 25 Turkish Lira ($2).
Both me and my mom were so full we decided to take a cab to the hotel instead of walking and fun fact the taxi driver tried to charge us double the price haha!

Welcome to my city.
I know balık ekmek (fish sandwich), but never tried balık dürüm (fish wrap). Efes is a good brand for beer. As I see, Turkey has been a cheap country for tourist.
I haven't read your Day 1 post. Have you seen Eminönü, Sirkeci, Karaköy, Galata Tower?
Enjoy your trip!
Hey local what's up hehehe!
Yeap, I actually shared a few photos in this post from Karakoy, been to Galata tower but not at Eminönü! I'm back now so Eminönü goes to my "what to visit next time" list hehe!
Your city is so beautiful and so hectic at the same time! So many people hehehe!
Yes, crowded those places especially with tourists and immigrants. Don't forget to wander around the old streets and buildings in Sirkeci.
Next time I will, thanks for the tip! And maybe we can meet up for a beer or two (or 3 or 4 haha)
It would be nice 😁
Turkey is one of the countries that I wanted to visit. And it seems that Turkey has lots of delicious food too. I hope I can visit Turkey soon.
I'f you're looking for good food then Turkey is one of the best choises to travel @afterglow + it's beautiful!
Haven't been to the rest of the country but judging from Instanbul I bet there are plenty of amazing places all over!
Thank you for the recommendation, I really appreciate it. Have a nice day ahead.
Istanbul is one of the places I want to visit. Its unique beauty makes me fall in love every time I see posts related to it. Good job :)
Thank you! It was an amazing experience. I hope that you are able to go!
yes, I hope I can go there some day :)
Then you should! Also not that many Covid restrictions over there and this makes it an even better choise than the rest of Europe!
Wow I hope I can go there someday :) Nice info!
I'm sure you will! THanks a lot!
