First Week With a Newborn/Primera semana con un recién nacido [ENG-ESP]

People usually say that the first to six weeks with a newborn is usually a whirlwind filled with so many emotions and it is safe to say that it is way worse if you are a first time mother.

La gente suele decir que las primeras a seis semanas con un recién nacido suelen ser un torbellino lleno de tantas emociones y es seguro decir que es mucho peor si eres madre primeriza.

My elder sister recently gave birth to a baby girl and after staying in the NICU for a week due to some difficulties from birth, she was allowed to come home but there were a few hiccups.

Mi hermana mayor recientemente dio a luz a una niña y después de permanecer en la UCIN durante una semana debido a algunas dificultades del nacimiento, se le permitió volver a casa, pero hubo algunos contratiempos.

First, my sister had plans to exclusively breastfeed her child but because of the time spent in the hospital, she was already being fed baby milk and it took a few days trying to adjust her to breast milk, and even now, she still has a bigger appetite because apparently, baby milk is more filling.

Primero, mi hermana tenía planes de amamantar exclusivamente a su hijo, pero debido al tiempo que pasó en el hospital, ya estaba siendo alimentada con leche para bebés y tomó algunos días tratar de adaptarla a la leche materna, e incluso ahora, todavía tiene una mayor apetito porque aparentemente, la leche para bebés llena más.

Secondly, in the hospital my niece didn’t have baths, instead, she was being cleaned with wipes so getting home and being introduced to baths was a bit hard for her, and she has struggled a lot with it.

En segundo lugar, en el hospital mi sobrina no se bañaba, en cambio, la estaban limpiando con toallitas, por lo que llegar a casa y conocer los baños fue un poco difícil para ella, y ha luchado mucho con eso.

Thirdly, my sister has had a bit of struggle with the pain from breastfeeding and I guess, it is getting better as it goes and she is learning new methods to make it easier on her.

En tercer lugar, mi hermana ha tenido un poco de lucha con el dolor de amamantar y supongo que está mejorando a medida que avanza y está aprendiendo nuevos métodos para hacerlo más fácil para ella.

Minus all the hiccups, my niece’s first week has gone very smoothly especially since she is such a sleepy and calm baby, too sleepy even and I guess it is because she is adjusting to day and night.

Menos todos los contratiempos, la primera semana de mi sobrina ha ido muy bien, especialmente porque es una bebé tan tranquila y somnolienta, incluso demasiado somnolienta y supongo que es porque se está adaptando al día y la noche.

My sister often complains that she is kept all through the night because my niece refuses to sleep at night and the solution that was given to her is to sleep during the day which is almost impossible as we usually would have visitors to see her and her child.

Mi hermana a menudo se queja de que la mantienen toda la noche porque mi sobrina se niega a dormir por la noche y la solución que le dieron es dormir durante el día, lo cual es casi imposible ya que normalmente tendríamos visitas para verla a ella y a su hijo.

I think the best part of this week is the love that has been poured in since she came home because friends and family all over have been calling, sending gifts, and even money and it feels like a blessing to have this child with us.

Creo que la mejor parte de esta semana es el amor que se ha derramado desde que llegó a casa porque amigos y familiares de todas partes han estado llamando, enviando regalos e incluso dinero y se siente como una bendición tener a esta niña con nosotros.

For me, I have been pretty much in awe and I spend so much time watching her while she sleeps which might be weird but I can’t believe that I am blessed with her.

I think it is crazy because she is the fifth child coming into my family but for some reason, the emotions that come with her feel so much different than the rest and I can’t wait to see her grow older.
