A delightful May Mail Call; from my Hive Witness @enginewitty

”Blackbirds tend to like shiny things.” ~ The Bloody Raven

Last Thursday morning after my shift and a pile of dishes I settled down to the kitchen table to finish my baby Sister’s Tax Return. Baby Sis wasn’t bright but often preoccupied by her Obsessive-Compulsive behavior, hence my getting her tax receipts late. Sitting at the corner of the table was Witty’s package. I had to make a decision, I decided “she can wait another day.”

Scoring the tape, I opened it up, removed the paper padding, leaned over to get a whiff of genuine Tennessee air before it wafted away…

image.png

Regretfully, it didn’t smell much different than British Columbia air. Perhaps it was due to my deadened olfactory nerve impulses from a career of changing bed pans and incontinent briefs. I figured that it may be the reason for shipping a big roomy box. 😉

With that said, my eye spy something shiny on the left.

First, The Shiny!

It seemed barely on the heals of thanking @enginewitty’s last generous gift of a Korean 2oz Silver Doggaebi Shield and tasty homemade jam, he alluded to another shiny gift.

The first Rwandan Nautical Series coin featuring the La Santa Maria de la Immaculada Concepcion, the Santa Maria.

This was premised on an anticipated March meetup with some staunch members of the #silvergoldstackers community in Las Vegas. And the big draw was the Las Vegas Numismatic society show. Meaning, wall-to-wall gold and silver shiny!

As usual, I am tied down with life stuff managing my Mom’s affairs and caring for my Roommate who is currently being treated with chemotherapy. At this point, we would need a miraculous healing to even entertain the ideal of our Hive Alliance Block Party II this September 10th.

The next shiny(s)

With the meetup in Las Vegas, we can’t help mentioning the person that led the charge into Steem Hive back in 2017 as a bunch of YouTube Stackers. Only few of us are left from the original group.
Well, the Meetup posts didn’t show any pictures of Mike, but we knew that there was some business between some members of the group and @pit-bullion.

I still follow @pit-bullion on IG staying updated to his creations, rumor has that he has subcontracted some of his products to a Chinese manufacturer. I should test these rounds on my CCT Silver slide.

And Shiny Chokin Art! 😮

Cutty Sark – Chokin Collector Plate
image.png

I am not totally unfamiliar with this product; in fact, I have a lovely Dragon plate made by the same “Dynasty Gallery” brand of 6 inch collector plate with a matching dragon vase as a gift from Nyssacat373. I was saving that for a killer Dragon coin post.

As for Witty’s choice… it matches my coin with the same majestic view of this famous Tea Clipper!

image.png

Chokin art is an ancient Japanese technique of engraving and gilding using gold and silver originally for embellishing the personal weapons of Samurai warriors.
With that in mind, I can understand how Witty made this delightful choice.

image.png

The bottom of the plate has the same message, “Not for food use, May poison food.” So, I better not serve treats to my guests with this plate. Maybe serve the pesky real estate salesman that’s been trying to get me to sell my home.

Since my cat suddenly passed away a month ago, I need not worry anymore about fragiles knocked over. I know I have a left-over plate stand somewhere, it’s time to display this new piece on the mantle.

Thank you again @enginewitty for these most seaworthy gifts! 💋

Thanks again for sharing the treasure, Kerris L Ravenhill - @kerrislravenhill. The Rwandan Coins were very low mintage numbers. For some reason, someone wants to keep these, important numbers, a secret. There are other Countries, doing the same. Low numbers can affect their value.

This explains why the mintage numbers remain unpublished. There were figures bandied around 5k to 25k but they were just guesses and were not from primary sources like the B.H. Meyer Mint where they were made.

I'm curious on why Rwanda chose famous sailing ships as a coin series, other than a lake, the country is land locked with no direct access to the oceans.
I like a coin mysteries.

There was a lot of kidnapping going on, in the area, for over four hundred years, from 1400s – 1800s. Slave Ships? Kerris L Ravenhill - @kerrislravenhill.

The reverse cameo effect makes the Santa Maria stand out and the background navigational lines adds a nice emphasis to the theme of the coin and series.

I believe I provided the link to the pitbullionlv website but that particular 1gr round is not in stock when I last checked. You would have to inquire and get an ETA on new stock.

Nice! YOu deserve it . I would not take the Rwanda coin out of its slab. The ones I took out toned. The ones kept in did not. (after 10+ years)

I recall the controversy of these factory flips causing problems on the coins themselves. Back in 2018 there were reports from Stackers holding these advising others to get them into capsules ASAP because the flips were not acid free? But neither this coin nor the other coins I have in this format show any issues. It had to be another factor like exposure UV light or something like that.

Thanks for the reminder @goldrooster

Thanks for the support. @india-leo
I do not have a lot of Leo Token, I've made a goal of 2K Leo as my baseline goal and planned delegating the excess over that. I am currently around 1850 Leo.

That's a wonderful package to receive I love the coins and the plate is really cool I don't think anyone would really eat out of a plate like that and if they did I would consider them savages that's a work of art not some common plate.

Neither would I.
I'll have to move my Katana set from the Mantle to put these plates up for disply.

'Runt' liked to perch on high places and my fireplace mantle was no exception. A fine mouser of a cat and takes the time to show me the fruits of his labor. He was struck by a car and was in terrible shape and the obvious decision was to put him down. I will wait a while before deciding on his replacement, until then I will bring out the lovely China.

Thank for dropping in @silvertop

Ah pit bullion. I haven't been to IG for ages. I dunno where you find the time

And I can understand your losing 'Sweet Pea' too Sis.
I usually check in on IG on my work breaks when I get them. Posting on IG keeps me in good standing with the Stacking community there, make a plug for Hive, and see some of the Silver art before they go on sale. Often the great pieces are sold out before they go officially on the Website.

Always, with !LUV

I don't feel deserving these gifts but if Witty believes so, then it encourages me to continue be a contributing member of our Hive family.

In a funny way, I will miss waking to a "CRASH" in the Living room.

I have no idea what was used to make this plate.
Perhaps I should be wearing gloves in handling it too.

Poetic Irony, such a beautiful plate that can be potentially deadly!

The Cutty Sark ship has very dramatic history behind, although it was mainly used for tea shipments from China to England. The 24K gold rim makes it more impressive, the piece is well crafted to the perfection.

Every gift piece is superb, and it is the love of your friends.

True wealth is adding friends you can trust.
Above line is absolutely true.

Like the Santa Maria, the Cutty Sark is represented on various commemorative coins all over the world. Her reputation of record breaking speed, branding, marketing, and a few tall tales added to her legendary fame. I believe the Cutty Sark brand of tea is still available in England. I still have the Brand of Whiskey in my cabinet.

Thanks for dropping in @emaxisonline

I found another fact about her, the ship was used to transport wool from Australia to England as well.
@kerrislravenhill
No idea if there is any tea brand after her name, but Cutty Sark is named after an Scottish nightdress. :D

I think the change to shipping bulk wool came as Steamers were becoming more prevalent by their reliability and economically more competitive than the Tea Clippers. The age of the elegant Clipper (Windjammers) were a great advertising platform but are no longer competitive.

Their brand still makes a wicked Whiskey.

The times were changing, speed of the steamers gave the businesses to deliver the goods at faster pace. The clippers were a great deal that time, but technology keeps evolving to give us new inventions and improvement.

WOW! this Cutty Sark bottle of scotch looks classy and bold. 🤠

Thanks for sharing this amazing information.

I got plenty more coins of silver sailing ships in a treasure chest of their own separate from my Pirate silver coin chests. I just need the time to write them up. I am not blessed with abundance of online time.

Behold, me Treasure book of ships.

Dear @kerrislravenhill, we need your help!

The Hivebuzz proposal already got an important support from the community. However, it lost its funding few days ago and only needs a few more HP to get funded again.

May we ask you to support it so our team can continue its work this year?
You can do it on Peakd, ecency, Hive.blog or using HiveSigner.

Your support would be really helpful and you could make the difference! Thank you!
