My Unlucky Lucky

Do you immediately open your door when someone knocks even if you don't expect any visitors? Or do you peek first through your window? Or peep through the hole in your door?

If you ask me what I always do? I ignore them until I heard him/she talks and say my name.

If her/him voice is familiar then I'll go face them. It's not an ill-mannered attitude but advanced thinking for my security in case they are an intruder. Also, I let our dog bark continuously so they will know that they can't easily break in if they will plan to do it.

Just like last month, someone wants to break in. I saw a lil' paws under the door trying to get in.

It's a baby cat!

I opened the door slowly cause I got afraid her paws will be stuck. A dirty little fella meowed at me and walk inside my house. She is so dirty that I thought at first her fur is 2 colors, orange and black.

She's walking and wandering while crying. I guess she's hungry so I feed her with milk. With her looks, I can tell she fell into the dirty canal. I let her rest for a minute then give her a good bath after.

I noticed that her stomach is big maybe because she is contaminated with water from a dirty canal and for sure she had parasites inside.

And so I named her Laki (which means big) but make it Lucky because I searched on Google that Orange cats are a sign of luck.

Her days and night for 6 days are somehow okay but I noticed she doesn't make any sound. She is so quiet and sleeps always to the point I had to check on her from time to time if she was still breathing. Also, I keep cleaning her eyes gently cause it's full of gunk that stops her to wake up, and of course, feed her with milk.

Until the next morning. I'm waking her up and tapping her but there is no sign of her moving. I noticed that her body is cold and stuck. I picked her up and saw that she pooped and peed but didn't even move, and that was I realized that Lucky is already gone.

I felt guilty about her loss. I failed for being her fur mom. If only I was awake before her last breath, I will stop her from sleeping forever. I blamed myself, her life went unlucky because of me. But my partner comforted me and said wherever she is now, she's thankful that I let her in, that somehow someone took care of her in just a period of time, and that she is lucky even though she died, she is safe, unlike to other cats in the street died in the hands of cruel people or other animals that they don't want them around.

Even though it was hard for me to let her go, I clean her and put her in a box. That day I felt like I'm tearing into pieces while burying my child. Yes were together for only 7 days but during those days with her, I feel happy and loved.

While looking at her photos on my phone I suddenly decide to check the day I got her because, to be honest, I already forgot it and was shocked that it was on the 13th of March, last month.

Although it's a belief that the number 13 is an unlucky number, for me, I don't think that it's always connected to every event that happens.

Please everyone if you're an animal lover or not, and saw stray animals that you think need help, please help them. They like us too. They need food, shelter, and protection, but unfortunately can't say it. They find it hard to trust and might end up with the wrong people.

Let the kindness of everyone's heart prevail.

Thanks for hearing me out today.

Sorry to hear about Lucky, Kelzy. It's great that you let her in, fed and took good care of her during before she went to sleep forever.

Aww, I was happy reading until I read that line 😿 The name Laki to Lucky is cute. I also have an orange cat named Orens, but I get used to calling him Muning. Hmm, sorry to read about Lucky.
