Taking a Leisurely Walk at the Largest Plaza in Cebu City
Happy Wednesday Hivers!
It has been more than a decade since my last stroll at Plaza Independencia. This is one of the most historic places in Cebu City, as it was once used for military training and public parades during the period of foreign rule. If translated into English, it would be called the Independence Plaza, as it represents the attainment of independence.
This is the largest public park in Cebu City and a favorite hangout for students, lovers, and fitness enthusiasts. Students often hold their school dance practices here as it is spacious and cool. They enjoy practicing here because no one gets angry if they make noise. In the morning, you can see many fitness enthusiasts walking, jogging, and exercising. Lovers spend their time here, sitting on the benches under the trees.
As I visited here, a sense of nostalgia enveloped me, bringing back memories of the times I spent in this place. I was accompanied by my niece, who also reminisced about how this place was a significant part of her college memories.
Obviously, the place is well-maintained. Despite the hot weather, we can still see the green foliage of trees and plants. Normally, it would become dry as we are in the peak of the dry season, but because they water it every day, the trees and plants still look healthy.
We arrived early, so the place was still quiet, with only a few visitors around. Some tourists also dropped by as the location is near the historical Sto. Nino Church, Magellan's Cross, and Fort San Pedro.
It's good to see and have a quick stroll at Plaza Independencia after so many years. It feels great to be in a place again where you once spent your time.
Thank you for reading and see you on my next blog. Cheers!
