Our New Wooden Mortar and Pestle
Happy Wednesday Hivers!
When I was a child, we had a traditional wooden mortar and pestle, the large kind that was commonly used in the province. Unfortunately, after my mom stopped running a school canteen, someone borrowed it and never returned it. Over the years, she completely forgot who the last person was who borrowed it.

We used that mortar and pestle mainly for mashing bananas. Back then, we used to sell mashed bananas (locally known as nilusak), so it was one of the most useful tools in our kitchen.
Since our old mortar and pestle was never returned, my mom decided to buy a new one. It's much smaller than the one we had before, but that's perfectly fine because we no longer sell mashed bananas. We only need it whenever we feel like making some at home.

It was perfect timing because one of our neighbors makes traditional wooden mortar and pestles. As soon as my mom saw one in the size she had been looking for, she didn't hesitate to buy it. We bought this one for ₱500.00.

My mom was really happy with her purchase because now she finally has a mortar and pestle again whenever she's in the mood to mash bananas and prepare one of our family's favorite traditional treats.
Sometimes, it's the simplest things that bring back the best memories. This wooden mortar and pestle isn't just a kitchen tool, it's a reminder of our family's small business, our childhood, and the traditions we still cherish today.
