Have you ever been Scammed by an Online Sellers? My Recent Facebook Marketplace Experience

avatar

Happy Saturday Hivers!

How are you all? It's been a while since the last time I had posted here but I always check and read some Hiver's blog especially those blogs that are fascinating.

Yesterday, I purchased a pocket wifi from facebook marketplace. The seller and I were both agreed to meetup at Dumaguete Boulevard. I decided to purchase a secondhand pocket wifi since it is costly to buy a brand-new. The price difference is more than 50%. As I saw the advertisement, I immediately clicked it to scrutinize the item's details and photo. The price was absolutely alluring but there were a lot of what ifs I had in mind. Hmmm just call me pessimistic, I won't get hurt anyways.

I was skeptical at first since I don't have experienced of buying a product from facebook marketplace. As I checked the photo and the details of the product it seems that it is still in a good condition. A postpaid wifi at home was just recently installed and she doesn't need it so she decided to sell her pocket wifi......that was her explanation when I asked her the reason why she sells it. When the seller asked me the payment to prove that I am a serious buyer, I refused to send it to her Gcash account (e-wallet in the Philippines). Why should I? What if she's a scammer, that was I had in mind. Fortunately, it was just fine with her when I requested a meetup, I told her that I want to see it first prior to payment.

I arrived early to our meeting place and while waiting for her I strolled around the Boulevard. As always, the ambiance of Dumaguete Boulevard is festive. I haven't visited here for around 2 months and I was surprised as there are many changes since the last time I went here.

There were many new food stalls that sell barbecues, seafoods and plant-based foods. These food stalls were not here 2 months ago. You can only see vendors selling street foods like tempura, fish ball, kwek-kwek (quail eggs with flour) and etc. I don't know if this would be permanent. Honestly, I appreciate the Boulevard more with these food stalls.

After around 30 minutes of waiting, the seller informed that she's already in our meeting place. After a while, I saw her and she immediately handed to me the item (pocket wifi and cord) as she saw me. She gave me a few instructions on how to use it. As I checked it personally, the item looks fine. She gave me an assurance that it is still ok. After few minutes of chatting, I sent her my payment.

As I arrived home, I immediately used it and she's right, the item is still in a good condition. She's true to her words. I don't easily give my trust to online sellers because there are many scammers in the virtual world. What I had experienced yesterday proved that even there are many scammers online there are still many people who do business online with integrity. I was not got scammed because I don't easily give my trust to online sellers. I will request a meet up and scrutinize the item first before sending my payment to the sellers except the giant ecommerce in the Philippines.

What is your experience to online sellers? Have you ever been scammed? Please feel free to give your comment below.

Thank you for reading and see you on my next blog. Cheers!

I agree with you. There are so many scammers and I have met two on Marketplace here in my area. The first thing I bought something sight unseen and when I went to pick it up, the woman had sold it to four other people! Even though she had agreed in writing to sell it to me first, the next people offered her more money to sell it to them. I am glad I didn't pay for it, I never would. But, it annoyed me that she would sell the same item to everyone who called.

The next item was a recreational vehicle. I put a down payment on it while he took care of the paperwork and then he sold it to another person. Hello? Who are these people? I did get my money back after two months and a threatening letter from a lawyer friend.

A friend just bought a phone that was stolen. Yikes! These things do happen. You are right.

I like to think the best and trust people, but, these things have made me have less trust and so I am still wary and do not part money until I have seen it. You made a great deal!

I try to let people know how much I appreciate their participation in #MarketFriday! Even though I get many on a weekly basis, each one is read and enjoyed. I enjoy learning about the world and how it is to live in your corner of it, and, make yours or mine better in any way. I have been given hints to make life nicer, and recipes to make dinner interesting. I find it interesting to compare, not by the world's standards, but, by how we find the quality of our life with different I enjoy learning more about you and hope you feel the same, that is why I find it important to take the time to read a couple of #MarketFriday posts and leave a genuine comment. It is important for a community to do this, learning about others, and getting to know each other. The fun is in getting to know people and making a positive contribution to community life. All this fun and money too. What is not to love? That is one of the reasons I joined Hive. How about you? :) I leave you with the guidelines. I hope you are having an amazing week!

Fridays are all about the #MarketFriday Challenge! Looking to take part in it? Here is how:

Rules of the Road to Join #MarketFriday!

  1. Go to the market, or anywhere that you pay money for a service. It can be a movie, an auction, or even a museum. Wherever money is exchanged for a service or product.
    Take pictures! Be creative!
  2. Tell us a little bit about the market or the event. What brought you there? What did you buy? How much did it cost? Was it expensive? Did it go up or down? A scroll of pictures with few words doesn't usually work.
  3. Post the pictures. Of course, you should tell a little bit about the ones you post, it is too difficult to guess about some.
  4. Use the MarketFriday Community Platform to post (#hive-196308) This is not required but appreciated.
PLEASE Drop the link into the MarketFriday comment section so I can find it!!
  5. Following me and reblogging the post would be appreciated, but not a rule, more vision for more views on the #MarketFriday posts!
    7. You must put #MarketFriday by @dswigle somewhere on your post.

As always, please remember! #MarketFriday loves you!

(Edited)

I'm sorry to hear your bad experiences to online sellers @dswigle and I'm glad that you had your money back though it took some time to have it back. There are many scammers who are just lurking around and waiting for the right time to attack weak people. The least we could do is to be vigilant all the time.

Thanks for dropping by, I do really appreciate. Have a nice day 🥰!

Well, it all turned out fine, in the end, I shamed the woman into giving me what she promised me or I would have given her negative feedback. I see she uses the site frequently, so I hit her where it hurts. I would not have need mean, she just broke the rules.

I have a love/hate relationship with it, but, you can really do well on it, just scamming is a real possibility.

Yes! Being vigilant helps!

Thanks again for joining #MarketFriday!
