Blog #165: From Obsession To Fortune (Part-1): Mr. Cata-al's Coin Collections
Happy Thursday Hivers!
I've met a man (his age is around late 60s or early 70s) who owns a museum in Valencia, Negros Oriental. He personally toured me in his regular size museum. The museum is located in his backyard few meters away from his house. The place is filled with World War II Memorabilia but what caught my attention was a cabinet glass filled with different ancient coins.
I was speechless as he told me that the present value of one of his collected coins is around $22,000. If converted into Philippine peso it is already around a million. To be honest, I have no single idea of the coin value he collected because I'm not a coin collector. I don't have even one ancient coin in my possesion. If he never told me the value of it, maybe until today I am still an ignorant.
I sent some of the photos to my friend @psychkrhoz since he is also passionate of collecting ancient coins. He identified some of Mr. Cata-al's coin collections as rare and expensive. That time I realized that Mr. Cata-al has large fortune in his possession thru his coin collections.
Out of curiousity, I asked Mr. Cata-al if when was he started collecting coins. His replied astonished me, "when I was 5 years old". He used to visit his grandparents house when he was young. His grandparents gave him some coins, he never spend that certain coins, he just keep it.
When his uncle studied medicine abroad, his uncle gave him different coins. His coin collections grow. One day, he realized that his passion of collecting coins has turned into obssession. He collected more and more coins until he already have many coins in his possession.
I was greatly inspired by him to start collecting valuable items. He helped me to open my eyes to invest such stuffs because it is indeed a good investment.
Here are some photos of his coin collections that he display in his museum. I asked his permission first if I could take photo and upload in my blog, I was delighted as he said Yes.
Who would have thought that his obsession from collecting coins makes him a millionaire or even a billionaire. In my next post, I will show you some of his large collections that maybe it will also amaze you. So stay tuned!

Nice to read that. I too have some old italian coins that my grandpa gifted me with some kind of nonchalance. I guess that either I will ask an expert for their value or I will directly gift them to my sons and grandsons, so they have some recalls of the very beginning of '900

I've inherited my Father's coin collection and I got hooked into continuing the collection. And I am also a Stacker who accumulates hard asset gold and silver coinage, new and old as a vehicle of Savings rather than fiat currency. Most of my Blogs are on Coins.
