Boredom strikes me last Wednesday so I went to Cebu City just to take a glimpse in the City. It's been a while so it was good to see it again. Well there might be a grand celebration in this City this year as we celebrate the 500 years of Christianity however, due to the world's current situation many stuffs were cancelled. Although the economic condition has slowly return to normal but there are still closed establishments or just partially open. On-line and modular classes are still continued because Schools and Universities are still closed, work from home continued as well. I have also noticed that there are many free transportation anywhere in the city to take passengers to the neighboring Cities or within the City, of course I availed the free ride. Since I left home early in the morning it was still nice to stroll around the City because the weather was fine. First, I headed to Magellan's cross.

Magellan's Cross

If you are not from Cebu, have you already visited here? This is one of the famous tourist spot in Cebu City. The Magellan's Cross is named after Ferdinand Magellan, the Portuguese explorer planted the huge wooden cross and introduced Christianity here in Cebu 500 years ago.

Since I was not allowed to go inside Sto. Niño church because I just wore shorts (not short shorts) but it is not acceptable to church standard so I just offered prayer to Magellan's cross. The door was closed due to the pandemic so I only offered prayer outside. If you have noticed in my first photo below, there are candle vendors. They were not just selling candles but they are also doing what we called here "sinug" meaning dancing while offering prayer to Sto. Niño because we believed that the prayer is more stronger when someone prayed for us. The messy floor is visible in my third photo, according to one of the candle vendor that I had interviewed the priests will collect and light these candles every Monday and they offered prayer for the people. People believed that while placing candles inside Magellan's cross, prayers and wishes will be answered and granted.

Sto. Niño Church

I could not let you see the beauty inside the Sto. Niño church because I was not able to get inside but the picture below shows the beauty outside of the church. The architectural design is nicer when I had the chance to capture the whole building but well maybe I will tour you around in the church in my next blog. The church was located meters away from Magellan's Cross. Hope you would also consider this tourist spot in your itinerary as you explore Philippines. Come and visit Cebu also known as "The Queen City of The South". See you in my next blog.

Namaste! I am 50% introvert and 50% extrovert, fond of reading books, watching korean, american and filipino series/movies and I am also fond of gardening. I love listening to different life stories and I am always captivated with the beauty of nature so travel is my escape when life turns into blue. But hey, how could I forget my photography hobby? It is one of the best, so follow me as I will be featuring my experiences of the stuff that I am passionate with.
