Al matrimonio formado por Alonso Herrera y Flavia Meléndez, los médicos, le habían dicho que no podían tener hijos. Ellos no se desanimaron por ese diagnóstico. Tenían fe en que Dios le concedería el milagro.

Viven en Comunidad Esperanza, un condominio donde todos tienen una alta posición económica. Muchos de sus vecinos le sugirieron que adoptaran un bebé o, que hicieran la fertilización “in vitro”. Ellos se negaban. Confiaban en Dios…….

Mientras, asistían a los orfanatorios y colaboraban con ellos en todo lo que hiciese falta. Pasaron los años y se olvidaron de esa petición que le hicieron a Dios. Ellos llenaban su existencia con su vida filantrópica y, compartiendo su cariño con familiares y amigos. Se sentían dichosos y afortunados…..No sabían lo que les deparaba el destino…….

Ya tenían 20 años de casados. Flavia entró en la fase de menopausia. Nada extraño, solo que los síntomas eran muy diferentes a los de sus vecinas. Ellas le sugirieron que consultara al Doctor Julián Hernández. Así hizo. Fue a la consulta. Luego del reconocimiento el Doctor Hernández le comunica:

-Señora Flavia usted está embarazada. Pero recuerde que puede ser un embarazo de alto riesgo.-

A Flavia la sorpresa la llenó de confusión. Lo que menos esperaba era estar embarazada……. ¡¡¡A esas alturas de la vida!!!!!. Sale del consultorio, tenía que prepararse para darle la noticia a su esposo.

Llega a su domicilio y toma una ducha. Quería despejar un poco el aturdimiento que sentía…Después se viste y se recuesta sobre su poltrona favorita, esa que le regaló su esposo en su último cumpleaños. Allí en esa quietud piensa… ¿Cómo se lo diré? ¿Qué pensará? En ese momento se le ocurre preparar el plato favorito de Alfonso...

Llega la noche…… ambos pasaron una agradable velada. Luego de la cena le da la noticia a su esposo. Todavía siente el miedo, no sabe cómo reaccionará. Está esperando algo ……. Y, repentinamente el exclama:

-Tranquila mujer, en esta etapa de la vida podemos dedicarnos más al bebé.-

Flavia suspiró…esas palabras fueron un bálsamo para sus oídos.
Pasaron los meses…… Con extremos cuidados todo salió perfecto. Tuvieron un hermoso varón que llamaron Alonso.

El niño siempre fue tranquilo, empezó a hablar muy rápido. Pareciese que viniera ya preparado para esta época. Sus padres lo estimulaban leyendo y dándole todas las explicaciones que el pedía.

Ya a sus 5 años era muy vivaz y curioso. Siempre que lo acostaban para dormir, en la noche, aprovechaba para realizar preguntas un poco más complicadas…….

En una de esas noches Alfonso pregunta a su padre:

-Papi, ¿Quién es Dios?, ¿Tú lo has visto?, ¿Cómo es él?, ¿Qué hace?-

¡El Señor Herrera queda perplejo! Se repone rápidamente de su asombro y pregunta:

-Alonso, ¿Dónde escuchaste eso?-

El niño responde inmediatamente:

-En la televisión.-

El Señor Herrera trata de contestar las preguntas de manera que las comprenda…..y le dice:

-Son muchas preguntas Alfonso. Te cuento………Dios es un ser todopoderoso.-

En eso el perspicaz niño lo interrumpe:

-¡Uy! Papa ¿Qué significa todopoderoso? Esa palabra nunca la escuché-

El Señor Herrera continúa hablando

-Bueno, Dios es un ser especial que siempre está con nosotros, aunque no lo veamos, y hace muchas cosas al mismo tiempo como cuidarnos, alimentarnos y……..-

En ese momento ve que el niño está tratando de mantenerse despierto. Le da un beso y lo cubre con la manta……El infante se queda dormido……. como complacido por la respuesta del padre.

El padre apaga la luz, sale de la habitación y va cavilando…… ¿cuál será la próxima pregunta que me hará mi hijo?.... Seguiré, como hasta ahora, caminando por la vida en presencia del Señor …….

Months went by...... With extreme care everything went perfect. They had a beautiful baby boy they named Alonso.

The child was always quiet, he began to talk very fast. It seemed as if he was already prepared for this time. His parents stimulated him by reading and giving him all the explanations he asked for.

Already at the age of 5 he was very lively and curious. Whenever he was put to bed to sleep, at night, he always took the opportunity to ask more complicated questions........

On one of those nights, Alfonso asked his father:

-Daddy, who is God, have you seen him, what does he look like, what does he do?-
